What frightful news today! How many more shooting stories can we hear about within a 24 hour time period! First the disgruntled doctor in Fort Hood, now the angry ex-employee in Orlando. Seems to me there would be another way to solve these problems other than killing your fellow man.

First let's look at the Fort Hood shooting. The shooter was actual a psychiatrist and was upset about being deployed to Iraq. He killed 10 soldiers who were going through the last stages of deployment. It's kind of hard to think that a doctor, a psychiatrist at that, would take such drastic measures to avoid deployment. Kind of makes you wonder what the real underlying reason was for such a life altering attack. Since he has survived this attack, I would assume more answers will be forthcoming.

The second shooting spree was in Orlando Florida. This gunman was an engineer at a company, and had been layed off from his company several weeks ago. He killed 1 person and wounded 5 others. He was apprehended later today at his mother's home.

Here's what I want to know. Were there any early signs these people were going off the deep end? Had they had a history of erratic behavior? Could their actions somehow been averted? So many unanswered questions!

What about some gifts that would be both practical and helpful?

One idea I had was Duracell's new MyGrid wireless pad, which was featured on AOL yesterday. It charges a number of different Smartphones, mobile devices and GPS receivers at once. You also only have one cord to deal with, not multiple cords or multiple power chargers to remember to take with you when you are mobile. This would be the perfect gift for the gadget guru in your life.

Another great gift would be an eBook reader. There are several on the market right now. The Kindle is very popular, as is the Sony reader, as well as several others. The Nook from B&N is being released later this month and also promises to be a really nice eBook reader. They allow the avid book reader to read their favorite tome anywhere. They have built in lights, and long life batteries, so you can take them anywhere. No more bulky books to carry around, and no more worrying about torn or tattered pages. I can think of a friend of mine who would just love this gift - and I'm sure you can too!

How about a Netbook, for that person who is always on the run and always connected to the internet. There are quite a few out right now that are priced very reasonably and have a lot of great features. Most are very light and come loaded with things to keep you occupied during morning commutes or short trips.

I think that this year will be a good year for that perfect "gadget" gift. These gifts can make a person's life much more manageable and fun and won't put a huge dent in your holiday budget.

Some of these races held historic significance. In New Jersey, until last night, the party in power, in the White House hasn't won the Governor's office since 1985. Republican Chris Christie turned the tides by ousting New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine.

In Virginia the party in power in the White House hasn't won the Governor's office since 1977. Republican Bob McDonnell's victory in the Virginia governor's race over Democrat Creigh Deeds was a major upset for the Democrats and has secured the Republicans that much sought after seat.

One of the biggest races last night was special election in the 23(rd) District of New York where Democrat, Bill Owens, grabbed the seat from the Republican Party. The Democrat, have not held this seat in the house for more than 100 years.

In Maine the voters weighed in on about same-sex marriage. Ohio voted on allowing casinos in the state. There were also a large number of cities that selected new Mayors.

Most races were won on local and state issues and on the candidates in each race. Voters went to the poles to vote on issues and said the President was not necessarily a factor in how they voted. Exit polls show a lot of independent voters who voted for Obama actually voted Republicans this time around.

One thing is for certain, this race has brought to the forefront voters opinions and directions on how they want this country run and what candidates they felt could help Obama turn things around.

We asked in our latest poll which you preferred, Sexy, or Scary and most voted for Sexy.

Amazingly, most costumes can be made into something sexy, with few modifications. For instances, by making it shorter, tighter, or more revealing you can pull off that sexy look. You could also change up makeup and accessories to give that more alluring look.

Whatever your choice was, be it sexy or scary, Halloween is a great opportunity to have fun!

The CDC called for this recall after 16 people were sent to the hospital, and 2 others died, from suspected E. coli contamination.

The contaminated meat was shipped to several markets from Maine to North Carolina, and was packaged in various ways, such as meatballs, hamburgers, and combination mixes, as well as re-marketed for sale in different packaging and under different brands.

E. coli can cause a variety of symptoms, such as severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, and in some cases, severe blood and kidney problems. Some of the symptoms are common to other illnesses, so if you're concerned, check with your doctor.

Make sure if you buy any fresh or frozen foods, you store and prepare them according to package directions, and always wash your hands and cooking utensils thoroughly after handling and preparing food.

Snoring is a common and natural problem, but it sure is a nuisance. The irritatingly hoarse noise comes from the tissues in your throat vibrating as air flows past. The problem seems like it should be simple to control, but nose, mouth, jaw and throat deformities can make the noise worse by narrowing your airway and increasing the vibration. Cruises are unique because they allow you to get on a boat, bound for some exotic or unique place, site see, and then return to the same boat for more fun on board. You could be in a new harbor each day of your cruise if you like.

There are a lot of choices when it comes to cruises. There are ships that go to the Islands, some go to Alaska, and others are bound for Europe and Asia. You can also choose how long you want to be sea bound, 14 day, 7 days, or maybe just a long weekend trip.

And lets talk about the food! Wow! There is such a wide variety of really amazing food! Seafood, Mexican, Thai, and usually there is a selection of foods that originate from the places you are sailing. You can dress up for dinner, or go in shorts and flip flops. The truth is, even though digital technology is taking over in many sectors, timepieces still hold a firm spot in our society. Not only are they functional, watches are also pieces of jewelry. Take, for example, ladies watches with interchangeable watch bands to match your outfits and diamond watches to wear on special occasions. Other luxury watches, like Rolex and Cartier, are a sort of status symbol. Do you think the dignified pocket watch will ever come back in style?

Even though I have not worn a watch in years, I decided that maybe I should invest in one. It is probably a good idea to always know exactly what time is and not just guesstimate. Who knows ... it may even help me with my problem of being chronically late for everything!

Being as I know nothing about watches, I decided to see what brand name watches people were searching for on AOL Search. Rolex was of course number one. But, I have never heard of Invicta watches. I have heard good things about Movado watches, so maybe I will get one of them?

I made sure my calendar was clear, the dog fed, and the cat out, so that I could sit in front of my TV and enjoy the game. I had my beer and my popcorn next to me and I was set. Then I got to thinking how much fun it would be to actually go to the game. Sitting in the stands, with lots of cheering fans, eating a ....? Wow, what would I eat while I was there? There are so many food choices now when you go to the game. Not only do you have all your traditional fare, like, Hot Dogs, Nachos, Corn Dogs, Cracker Jacks, there are now even more choices! If you're in the mood for salad, they have it. Rather have Sushi, you can get that too. How about a nice grilled chicken sandwich? Most stadiums now cater to a large variety of appetites.

People are so health conscious that Stadiums at major sporting events now have to make sure they have different foods to suite just about any palette.

I think I would end up trying so hard to decide what to eat while I was there, that I would probably end up missing the game.

Game consoles and games date back to the 1970's with the introduction of the Magnavox Odyssey, which predated the Atari Pong home consoles, and games introduced like Battleship and Centipede which were played for hours. There are games for little folks, teens, adults and even senior groups. They range from very easy to very difficult to play, and some are even interactive.

There is such a variety that I couldn't imagine anyone ever being bored!

A recent article in Money Magazine shows a comparison of retirement planning at different ages. They calculate how much money you'll have at age 65 if you contribute 10 percent to your 401(k) beginning at 30, 35 or 45, with a starting salary of $40,000 and a 4 percent annual raise. They estimate that the 30-year-old will have $1 million while the 45-year-old will have $461,000 (a great reason to start your retirement savings as soon as you can).

The marathon has been run every year for the past 34 years and started with 1,175 runners. Today the race is run and walked by over 20,000! This amazing group of people come from such a large and diverse group. Some folks come from as far as Japan and Australia just to run this race. The course is a grueling 26.2 miles for the trained runner, with a 10k race also taking place simultaniously for runners of all ages. It is truly amazing that a race that people train for months and months, is won in as little as 2.21 hours, which is the winning time turned in by John Mentzer for the men and 2.49 hours turned in by Muliye Gurmu for the women.

What great dedication it must take to be so determined and disciplined to accomplish this marathon. Congratulations to all runners, you are all winners in my book!

I wonder how many are sick with just colds, and how many are sick with the Flu. Swine flu has now been declared a Pandemic with symptoms ranging from a runny nose, headache, cough, body aches. Yet with all those symptoms, there are still people coming into work sick. Do they maybe think they just have a cold, or maybe allergies?

Then you have the other end of this flu, where people are spraying everything! Their desks, their phones, the air that was recently vacated by someone who might have had the sniffles! It's getting crazy.

My advice, if you feel like you're getting sick, or your nose is a little runny, or you are a little achy, better to be safe than sorry and stay home! If by day two you are still feeling bad, maybe it's time to give the Doctor a call.

For the rest of us who have shown no symptoms, grab your hand sanitizer and disinfectant spray and spray on!
