The Prisoner - Revisited

Sunday night as I was flipping through channels, I happened across a miniseries on AMC called "The Prisoner". The original show was a TV series in the '60's and had some strange twists and turns. This recreation of that show focuses on a village where inhabitants all live in a Utopia like environment and the main characters are known by numbers, not names. There are plenty of twists and turns and you can't help empathizing with the characters. The show starts out with the arrival of "6", into the village. He doesn't remember any of the people in it or how he even got there. The village is in the desert, with nothing around it as far as the eye can see. He spends his time looking for ways to escape.

Here's the problem though...is there somewhere to escape too? Is this place as wonderful as the people there want you to believe? And that's what draws you in. The second significant character so far is "2", who runs the place. He truly believes in his Utopia but doesn't reveal why "6" is there, or what plans he has for him. As we meet some of the inhabitants, it really does seem like an ok place. You can't help but wonder what's "6's" hurry to get back to where ever he thinks he came from!

The show will span a over 3 nights and run two episodes each night from 11/15 to 11/17. Don't worry though, if you missed the first night, there will be recaps, and trust me, you'll need them! For more on this series, go to AOL Television

I'll be watching tonight, because frankly at this point, I just need to know how it all ends. Let me know what you think after you've watched!

Recycle, Reduce, Reuse

Sunday is America Recycles Day and there are lots of great things that can be recycled, plus it's a pretty easy task to recycle.

Here are the Top Searched Recycling products on AOL Search:

1. Recycled Glass
2. Recycled Crafts
3. Recycled Paper
4. Recycled Bags
5. Recycled Glassware
6. Recycled Clothing
7. Recycled Furniture
8. Recycled Rubber
9. Recycled Water
10. Recycled Building Products

Most cities and counties make it especially easy by providing convenient places to take recyclables that are open 24/7, as well as curbside pickup up to twice a week. Recycling products such as glass, plastic, aluminum cans and paper can help protect the ozone layer as well as decrease pollution and save energy. Recycling cell phones is another way to not only help the environment, but also your fellow man. Most of these phones are refurbished and given to the needy. You can usually find a cell phone carrier or retail store that will have a cell phone recycle center. Most anything you can think of probably can be recycled in some form or fashion.

Before you make that next trip to the dumpster make sure you check to see if anything is recyclable. Let's all participate in America Recycles Day and RECYCLE!

Walmart and Black Friday

Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away and, as we all know, that means Black Friday, the craziest shopping day of the year is almost upon us! It's the nickname given to the Friday after Thanksgiving and the unofficial start to the holiday shopping season.

Though Black Friday is commonly referred to as the busiest retail shopping day of the year, it does not always have the biggest sales volume. However, it usually ranks among the top three days in customer traffic to stores, along with the Saturday before Christmas and December 26th.

This year, Wal-Mart will keep its stores open 24 hours and take new crowd-control measures on Black Friday. Last year, at a Wal-Mart in Valley Stream, NY, not far from my hometown on Long Island, an employee died on Black Friday after he was trampled to death by a mob of shoppers. Hundreds of people lined up outside the store and as soon as the doors opened, a stampede ensued and ended with one dead and four injured. This year, in addition to being opened 24 hours, Wal-Mart plans to place its hottest sale items far apart from each other to prevent crowds from gathering and avoid another stampede in the frenzy of Black Friday shopping.

Personally, I like to avoid the chaotic crowds and do my shopping around 8 or 9 AM on Black Friday, which is much less hectic than going in the afternoon or waiting for the store to open at the crack of dawn. But whenever you join the Black Friday masses, you can count on amazing deals all day long!
