Jeffrey Donovan may play a savvy ex-spy on the TV series 'Burn Notice,' but he is no stealth operative in real life. The 41-year-old was arrested in Miami last weekend on suspicion of drunk driving. Miami Beach police pulled Donovan over after he swerved to avoid rear-ending a police cruiser. Looks like Donovan could learn some lessons from his spy character, Michael Westen. Namely, always watch your back...and front and peripherals.
The police noted that Donovan smelled like alcohol, but the actor refused to take a breathalyzer test. Instead, he admitted to drinking three glasses of wine and popping a Benadryl. Spy lesson #2: Honesty is not always the best policy.
Donovan failed the field sobriety test and then was carted off to the slammer. After posing for a mug shot to join the Hollywood DUI hall of shame, Donovan posted bail and was released.

Too bad, I liked the guy, and the show. But, for now I will view it differently. He's a good actor, but make no mistake, when such stuff happens, it changes things, perceptions. Unfortunately, my perception of him now is different, and not as good as it was.

Wow, George, I'd hate to be your friend and make a mistake. I hope people are more compassionate with you than you are with them. Good luck to you.

Bummer. I definitely like the show, a LOT, and I like Donovan's character and his work on the series. It's always a drag to see the celluloid sheen stripped off a film or TV hero, and if I were his friend, I'd chew him out but good for being irresponsible. Hopefully it'll be enough to get his attention and get him off the wrong track. Heck, these people have factotums and assistants at their every beck and call... Next time you're hopped up (or graped up) Jeffrey, CALL one!

Jeff Donvan. He's a pompiss ass, he played one in all the different shows he's been on, so now he lands where all the other UNTOUCHABLES land. In the stammer. Sure just pay the fine, walk away, all better. There studios should put it in their contracts, you act like a smhuck on your clock, you won't be on ours.

oh get over it everyone! who doesn't make a mistake some time in thier life. how many people drink and drive and just get lucky that they made it from point A to point B safely and with out hurting anyone? i know that i have! i will continue to watch Burn Notice, it is a great show!!!!!
By Linda on Jul 21st 2009 at 2:28PM
I agree with Chance, I would not want to be your friend George. Your perception about the show should not change because of what an actor did in his spare time. That is just simply ridiculous. Everyone makes mistakes, I am sure you have made some in your life George.

Hey Raesimeone, so you know Jeff Donovan personally??? to know that he is a pompiss ass??? Just because he plays one on all his shows (as you say) doesn't make him one in real life. And it's slammer, not stammer!!!!

Its one thing to mess up, Dear Chance, and another entirely to put everyone else at risk because of your own stupid selfish decisions. What if he had messed up even more and hit you and your family or someone you care about and killed them. I'm sure you wouldn't be saying it was just a mistake. You're told time and time and time again to not drive drunk, but yet, people still do it, and people die everyday from it.... Can the human race be more stupid?
By Lys on Jul 21st 2009 at 2:34PM
I gotta agree with George its changes how you think of a person, I mean seriously was it too difficult to get a driver?
By Carlos on Jul 21st 2009 at 2:36PM

Just a bit of info that I am sure any police officer can confirm!
I am a former police officer..who in the first week of the police academy was presented with a question directed at all the recruits...
Who here has driven drunk? No one raised their hands..until one brave soul did..then all of a sudden almost everyone in the room raised their hands. It showed me that many have...and we have all been lucky to get away with it.
Everyone makes poor choices. I am sure he is grateful this morning for not havng hurt or killed anyone. Maybe not his first..probably not. But this hopefully is a eye opening experience for him and many others and better choices will be made in the future.

This shouldn't hurt his career. He has a great show and credibility. We are all far from perfect.

Mr. Donovan got too full of himself from last year. Big mistake! This yr. show's are not as good as last. Not much interation or fun among Sam, Fiona & Mike.
Don't fix what's not broken. There's always Royal Pains!!!!!!
By Leslie on Jul 21st 2009 at 2:48PM
It's too bad that Jeff Donovan has been charged with a DUI. I hope he can fix this problem for his own sake but to all the holier than thou critics, you are worse then you say he is. Always judging and putting people down with no more knowledge of the person than what you think you know. Take as much time with your own problems and maybe you can fix a few things in your life. STOP THROWING STONES.

Drinking + driving = 0 excuse + 100% enforcement. This cannot be classified as a "mistake". Drinking + driving is a deliberate act. There are roughly 15,000 alcohol related motor vehicle deaths in the U.S. alone (according to recently published statistics). The real shame is that ANYBODY would drink and drive or condone the act. Lose a few family members in a horrible car accident and hopefully you will get the picture.
By Glen on Jul 21st 2009 at 2:51PM
Well isn't it just like the media/paparazzi to make sure they post all the BAD things people do! Gee..if they posted ALL drunk driver arrests with their arrest pictures maybe they wouldn't have so much time to stalk celebrities just waiting to catch then doing something "wrong". With that said, I don't condone ANY drunk driving for the obvious in-our-face reasons, but tired of "stars" always being singled out. Some of these people actually are good and do good things with their stardom!
