Everybody's skin is different, so what works for your best friend might not work for you. To add to the confusion, there are a ton of different creams, pills and medications that all claim to be fast acting acne treatments. You might have to try a few different treatments before you find one that shows results on your skin. Beware though, don't stress your skin out more by trying a bunch of new acne treatments at once. That might just make things worse.
In a perfect world, acne solutions would help clear up the acne you already have while preventing future break outs, but that isn't always possible. Your acne is caused by tons of different factors, including stress, hormones, bacteria and genetics. One treatment can't tackle all of the causes, so each works in different ways.
Topping our list of the topped searched acne treatments on AOL Search is Proactiv. You have probably seen the infomercials with celebrities talking about how well it works. Their system has several different steps to help cure acne using a topical treatment. Beware of the second most searched acne treatment, Accutane. The acne drug was taken off the U.S. market for reasons including extreme side effects.
If you are really serious about being acne free and you're not just looking for a quick fix, visit a dermatologist for a prescription acne medication. The most searched of these is Differin, a topical gel that helps prevent blocked pores. Other acne remedies include acne pills, such as Vibramycin, the ninth most searched treatment.

On June 29, 2009, Roche Pharmaceuticals, the original creator and distributor of isotretinoin, officially discontinued both the manufacture and distribution Accutane in the United States.
Roche took the action because of what the company described as business reasons related to low market share in addition to the high cost of defending personal-injury lawsuits brought by some patients who used Accutane.
Generic isotretinoin will remain available in the United States through various manufacturers. Roche USA defends Accutane and claims the drug has treated more than 13 million patients since its introduction in 1982. F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. apparently will continue to manufacture and distribute Roaccutane outside of America.
I took Accutane on two occasions. It was quite effective treating cystic acne. However, I believe the drug caused what is known as "dry eye" in which tear production is reduced often causing pain and burning.
For that reason, I would insist that the dermatogist begin with the lowest possible dose to avoid side effect, of which there are many.

Accutane was not taken off the market in the US. If it was, I woudnt be able to take it but I'm currently taking it. It is only given through a doctors order and I have to be in the Ipledge program to take it.
It does have extreme side effects though. I have to get bloodwork every month and take birthcontrol because it causes extreme birth defects if I were to get pregnant.
Accutane is a very powerful medicine, but if you have severe enough acne, I strongly recommend it. It's a hassle, but it works extremely well. Its been amazing and has made my life so much better.

I have had cystic acne for the last two years, starting at age 45 due to perimenopause. I have tried antibiotics (helped a little only til the end of the medicine). I also went on the new birth control pill YAZ which is for moderate acne, and that helped a little. Proactive helped a lot, but it wasn't getting to the really deep TUNNELS under my skin connecting everything. Finally I recently found ZAPZYT-a foaming cleanser and a gel that is applied right over the affected area. I used bandages over every single area, one night with a triple antibiotic, and the next night using ZAPZYT under the bandage. I have been doing this for the last two weeks, with tremendous results. The zapzyt cleansing lotion helps to take away the drying skin, and the gel helps to open the pores. I have very little scars, and am looking forward to letting my face get some sun! (unfortunately, ggetting sun on my face doesn't clear up cystic acne-plus there is that skin cancer risk...)

Accutane is still on the US market. You have to get a scrip from a dermatologist for it. Accutane is THE only sure cure of disfiguring cystic acne, which runs in our family. I've had many cousins as well as one of my own children who took this drug with NO side effects, other that the return of their self esteem. If you have serious acne, this is the only way to go.

One product no one has mentioned but works extremely well is the Body Shops Tea-tree oil line of soap, cleanser, toner and spot acne treatment. It worked wonders for my acne and is affordable, easy to use and never dries my skin. It is a product everyone should try. It could work for you. Just search "The body shop" to find their web site, plus they have stores in many malls.

I was put on Accutane about two years ago when I was 17. I was diagnosed with Nodular Systic Acne. It worked wonders, but I did have some side effects. I went through severe mood swings, severe ups and downs, but never thought of killing myself. To this day I am acne free with no scarring.

I am 29 years old and I have been dealing w/ acne for about 8 years, although I never had it as a teenager. Proactiv did not really work that well for my skin so I tried Acne-Free, which has the same 3-step process as Proactiv. On the Acne Free box, a claim is made that it works better and faster and is cheaper than Proactiv. I have found all of those claims to be true. Acne Free is all I use now and my face (besides the monthly zit or two) is clear.

use this TEPESCOHUITE. You can buy it on ebay. It comes from Mexico I think. I have used everything and tried everything. This stuff is FANTASTIC!! It aactually feels greasy when you put it on. It is like a balm but it clears you up pretty fast and almost like heals your skin. IYour skin is not at all dry out or agitated from this stuff. am very very surprise that the uS does not advertise this. It is inexpensive too. Trust me on this one. Use it for like 3 days and you can even see result. It does not take long too see result. I do not blog much but felt I should on this one.

Tried Proactive, Clean and Clear Advantage, Murad, you name it, I've bought it for my kids. My youngest daughter talked me into trying Skin ID from Neutrogena. DEFINATELY made a huge difference! Even if you're fed up like I was with throwing your money down the drain up until now, give this product a shot - it has been very worth it!

-I am now in my 60's, and I have had acne on and off, my entire life. Quite a bit was caused by oily scalp, as well. My dermatologist recommended Cetaphil mild facewash, and any mild daily hair shampoo, nothing strong. And for those looking to save, Sam's Club sells a two-pack of Cetaphil(2-20 oz. bottles)very cheap...and FYI, I am not in sales of any kind.

Without a doubt accutane worked wonders on my severe cystic acne. I believe the reports that it causes suicide are ancedotal. Lord knows, teenagers with severe acne would never commit suicide.

I didn't start breaking out on my skin until I hit my early 20s - which was very frustrating for me because all throughout HS I had great skin and I couldn't figure out what had changed. My pores got larger, I got blackheads and whiteheads coming out of nowhere. I have to say that I haven't had any cystic acne bouts, however my mom recently told me of something that she read in an article by the couple who have the "People's Pharmacy" in the paper and on the radio. I guess there has been some success with milk of magnesium. I'm going to try that and see if it works for me. If not, oh well, at least I'm not out a lot of money...lol

Accutane is NOT off the market. After trying every topical and oral medication for a year our dermatologist suggested Accutane. My son saw results within a few weeks, was on it for 5 months and totally cleared up. That was 4 years ago with no reoccurance. This was a god-send for him. The only side effect was chapped lips. Nothing psychological.
