Everybody's skin is different, so what works for your best friend might not work for you. To add to the confusion, there are a ton of different creams, pills and medications that all claim to be fast acting acne treatments. You might have to try a few different treatments before you find one that shows results on your skin. Beware though, don't stress your skin out more by trying a bunch of new acne treatments at once. That might just make things worse.
In a perfect world, acne solutions would help clear up the acne you already have while preventing future break outs, but that isn't always possible. Your acne is caused by tons of different factors, including stress, hormones, bacteria and genetics. One treatment can't tackle all of the causes, so each works in different ways.
Topping our list of the topped searched acne treatments on AOL Search is Proactiv. You have probably seen the infomercials with celebrities talking about how well it works. Their system has several different steps to help cure acne using a topical treatment. Beware of the second most searched acne treatment, Accutane. The acne drug was taken off the U.S. market for reasons including extreme side effects.
If you are really serious about being acne free and you're not just looking for a quick fix, visit a dermatologist for a prescription acne medication. The most searched of these is Differin, a topical gel that helps prevent blocked pores. Other acne remedies include acne pills, such as Vibramycin, the ninth most searched treatment.

I have suffered from acne for over five years and have tried nearly everything, including Proactiv. Proactiv only irritated my skin by drying it out, and made it flake, which was really embarrassing. DEACTIVATED worked wonders. My skin has never looked or felt better. No other products I tried in the past were as effective or worked as quickly as this one.
Having acne is a drag. You're self-conscious; it's embarrassing. You just want to be normal. I know how it feels. I started breaking out when I was about sixteen, and that's a tough enough age without a face full of pimples. Acne doesn't care how old you are; even in my thirties I was still breaking out and in my business, that's unacceptable. I first started using http://cli.gs/ClearPores after finding it for my teenage daughter. Within a week, I noticed an immediate change in the smoothness of my skin; fewer bumps, less redness. Now I have my brother on it, my babysitter on it. If only we had it sooner.

My daughter had a terrible case of acne. She was really depressed when her prom was coming up because she was all broken out and didn't even want to go No matter how many doctors we took her to and how many acne treatments/products we tried, nothing helped. One of her teachers in school told her about Clear Remedy, a 3 step treatment that was supposed to cure the 3 causes of acne. We went to their web site http://tiny.cc/GoodbyeAcne and saw that they had a free sample, so we could try it risk free, after being ripped off by so many bogus acne products. All I can tell you that it has worked like nothing else. Her face is now totally blemish free and I can't thank that teacher and whoever invented it enough. Her skin cleared up before the prom, she was finally asked out by the boy she wanted to go with, and all was good. We are so thankful that we found Clear Remedy for her.

I have to tell you that I have used Obagi, Proactive, and other expensive lines but I have had wonderful results with P.A.C. Perfect: http://cli.gs/Pac-Perfect When I was growing up, I used to get really bad outbreaks of acne all over my face and back. The problem stuck with me and I am now 23, and I still get pretty bad outbreaks from time to time. I was really sick of these unsightly pimples, and no matter what I did they didn't go away. I even went all out and bought a strong prescription medication, and all that did was leave my face sore, and red. I have been acne free for two weeks now thanks to P.A.C. Perfect: http://cli.gs/Pac-Perfect and I can't remember the last time I didnt have any pimples.

Acne is not just a teenage problem. I'm 30 and I found a product that I have been using a little over a week now ( http://flawlessskinessentials.com/ ) and I'm starting to see the difference in my face. I have (well, used to have) large pores, scars from acne and bad breakouts of acne. After using this I notice my skin being smoother and my acne slowly disappearing and my pores are getting smaller you almost can't tell when you see me.

I was a ten-year acne sufferer, I found a system that cured my acne condition in 3 days the natural way, saving myself from further scarring, and stopped wasting my money on expensive medications and over-the-counter products http://cli.gs/AcneFreeIn3
My acne had totally disappeared in only 3 days! I finally had the clear skin that I had always wanted, and my confidence and self-esteem went through the roof!
Still I worried it might return. As with previous attempts to put my acne into remission, there would be brief moments of success followed by the inevitable disappointment several days or weeks later.
However, this time something was different. My skin was completely clear, and it also felt vibrant, smooth, and healthy-looking. It felt as if my skin had been totally rejuvenated from the inside out!

Please try NATURAL supplements that are good for you and do not have side effects:
Glutathione (500mg 3X a day). Start very slow because Glutathione will cause you to detoxify!
Vitamin B6 (the P5P form only - NOT the Pyridoxal phosphate form) Start slow with this, too - break open one 50 milligram pill and go up to a whole pill until you see your acne clear.
Both of these supplements may cause your skin to initially break out because they detox the liver.
Please be patient - your skin will clear up!!
These are the BEST supplements for your skin - I have clear skin thanks to them after going through Accutane, countless courses of antibiotics, and acne injections for cystic acne that practically ruined my self esteem and my life.

Funny how all these comments contain "links" to other acne sites...haha.

I was one of the first Accutane patients in 1981. The side effects were severe... nose bleeds, fainting, very red and sensitive skin (no sun exposure allowed)and causes birth defects .. even 5 + years after you stop taking it. It also causes depression. At the time, they didn't know that side effect. I attempted suicide twice during the time I was on the medication and never had depression prior to taking it. My skin cleared up but not worth the health risks. Stay with topical acne treatments and be good to your skin!

I've always struggled with acne since I was 13 & I'm 23 now. I've tried proactive, which worked good for a while but it REALLY dried out my skin. After I realized I might have needed something gentler that I could use everyday my older cousin gave me her secret. It was just Clean & Clear foaming face wash with microbeads (NOT the see through bottle!)It costs around $6 & even though I had bad acne it worked! I saw better results using that then with the more expensive acne products. Since then I've found that that along with some St. Ives apricot scrub for a every other day exfoliation and a bottle of zapzit(which goes a long way) for small suprise pimples works VERY well. I havent changed it up because it really has given me great results. Sometimes things dont have to be expensive to work well! Hope this helps!

I'm 17 and have had to deal with acne for more than a few years now. I've tried different creams and pills, but neutrogena's skin ID has seemed to work the best for me.

I am a long term sufferer as well. This is not an advertisement or anything. This guy, Dan Kern, used over the counter products to get rid of his acne and started his own website to share his regime with others. It is one of the only things that has helped me and I tried everything. It is not an overnight fix, but the products he recommends are found at the drug store and if you follow his system it really helps. He also sells his own products which are actually cheaper than drug store brands like neutrogena, so it's a great deal and actually works.

If you have acne and you have tried everything there is out there, go out and get Shiseido's Benefiance face wash. Follow it with Shiseido's oil-free moisturizer in the light blue jar. It is the ONLY thing that cleared my skin. I have been using it for 15 years now, and I have had makeup artists tell me my skin is gorgeous. In the past I tried ProActive, Neutrogena Acne Wash, Burt's Bees Tomato Soap, Clearasil etc. All of that stuff dried my skin out. Do yourself a favor and please take my advice.

I am actually 53 now and I have had acne since I was like 10! I was on Accutane about 4 times when it first came out and although my skin looked GREAT during the months that I was on the program, it never cleared it up long term. I grew up going to a dermatologist every 3 weeks for years and years. (Thank GOD my skin never scarred but I was so lucky!!)
I discovered ProActive watching all the Infomercials and I have to tell you that I have used it for YEARS and it is the ONLY thing that has helped my skin stay clear.
However, I order JUST THE CLEANSER (they send me 3 bottles of the cleanser alone not all the toner, etc.) It may not help everyone and it IS expensive (about $15 a bottle) but if it doesn't work for you, they WILL refund your money. It wouldn't hurt to try it and it might help you a lot.

I would break out at least once a month. I started using SkinID about eight months ago. Within a week my face had cleared up and I have not had a breakout since. I then had my teenage step-daughter order her own regime. She started using it and told me she could see a difference the very next day! I would recommend anyone to visit www.skinid.com and give it a try.

My problem is a combination of adult acne and rosecea. Doxycyline, an antibiotic, taken twice a day as well as Omega 3 fish oil helps.
For cystic acne that will not clear up, a dermatologist can inject a cortisone derivative directly into the cyst. You will experience only a slight burning. When I have had injections, the burning always signals to me that the cortisone is in. The blemish will clear up sometimes as quickly as a day.
RE-10 Wash, a prescription cleanser containing sulfur, is what I use to clean my skin at least twice a day.
In addition, sometimes in the shower, I will use Oil-Free Acne Wash Cream Cleanser by Neutrogena which also has worked well.

It's really disgusting how marketing reps come here and advertise their fake products that don't even work. They prey on people's insecurities. The truth is, if you have cystic acne, the kind that is deep under the surface, there are no topical treatments that are going to work. What worked for me was simply taking a common and cheap antibiotic(capsule)...of which several types exist. Just be careful to make sure it's not one your allergic to. For girls, sometimes using a birth control pill will help, since the acne can be affected by hormones. Either way, it's best to visit a real dermatologist than send your hard-earned money to these online con-artists who pretend to be teens who actually have been 'cured' of acne. They are liars; don't trust any of their postings here.
By KSun28 on Jul 11th 2009 at 5:05PM
you should definitely try birth control if you are a young girl suffering from acne. i tried it and it has worked wonders - my face looks great and much better than it did two years ago when i had tried everything under the stars.

Where did they get the info for this article?...my son is currently on accutane...here in the u.s. it has not been removed. The disclosures that go with ANY drug are if any instance come about..even just one. And the instances where there was a suicide they cannot attribute directly to accutane
By Tony on Jul 11th 2009 at 5:10PM
In closing..we tried procative..did not work. At all. I realize not all remedies work for all..some work for others. Accutane has been awesome for him. As I read other postings I see and understand the self image problems that go with acne. Its terrible for kids to go thru this. His self image and confidence are finally coming back.
