While 'Harry Potter' fans count down the days until the new movie hits theaters, one of the film's stars is recovering from an illness that has killed hundreds across the globe. Actor Rupert Grint, who plays Ron Weasley in the movies, contracted swine flu while filming the latest installment of the series, 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.' The 20-year-old left the set after being diagnosed but has received treatment and is no longer contagious. He is expected to return to the set after attending premieres for the new movie 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,' which opens in the U.S. on July 15. Alas, even for a wizard there is no magic cure for swine flu.The swine flu outbreak hit its height in June when the WHO raised their alert to its highest level and declared the illness to be pandemic. Britain has the highest number of reported swine flu cases in Europe with nearly 7,500, but only four deaths.

Poor Ron, first he pretended to have spattergroit in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" now he's recovering from the flu. Get well soon Ron (Rupert) and stay well!

Now at last the truth comes out that the CDC doesn't want anyone to know: The whole global swine flu epidemic got started when Hagrid lost his temper & pointed his pink flowery umbrella at Dudley Dursley in the Hut on the Rock on Harry's 11th birthday. Dudley instantly grew a pig's tail, & it began to spread from there...

I love how the media makes swine flu sound so bad. In all actuality it's no worse than the typical flu we have all been getting since we were kids. In fact, worldwide it kills less people each year than the flu we are all used to getting shots for each winter. As a microbiologist I feel it's important for people to know and not get frightened the media who exaggerate things to their worst. The funniest part is that swine flu is easier to control than typical flu because right now it has a much much slower mutation rate meaning that we can more easily create a vaccine. I hope everyone has a wonderful day, thanks for reading =)

I'm also sick (Wow. That was unintentional.) of hearing about how /horrible and deadly/ the swine flu is. Sure people have died from it, but they ALL had other complication and/or were living in areas with sub-standard healthcare. People have probably died from chicken poxs and streth throat under those conditions too.(Yet almost my entire family seems to get the later, and survive it, every winter.)
Not to say I don't wish Rupert the best. I can't wait to see the movie and hopefully he feels well for those premieres.
.... Ha, I always seem so angry when I comment on things.

mediyAAAAAA hype for both illesses.

He should have paid more attention in Defense Against the "swine flu" class. He may have learned a good counter spell against the flu curse.
By Callie on Jul 6th 2009 at 7:26PM
Response to cynicalsoftball: That's horrible! What if it was one of YOUR family members who was sick? How would you feel then? Death is death! There's no exceptions. For your information, Chicken Pox was not a huge PANDEMIC! STREP THROAT? People use to die OVER ONE HUNDRED YEARS AGO because of strep throat! Do you know why? Because they didn't have a cure! NOW they have a cure! Don't even DARE compare Swine Flu to Strep Throat! A famous actor just got sick from Swine Flu, and you're saying that Swine Flu is no big deal? People around the world are dying!

I've never had a flu shot, nor have I had the flu. Why do doctors keep trying to get me to get a flu shot when I've never had the flu? It's all a bunch of crap. I was never worried about getting the swine flu to begin with. I'd like to have a common cold shot to prevent mucus from running out my nose and plugging me up so I can't breath out of my nose.
