Diet is a four letter word...literally! Even though nobody likes to diet, many of us find ourselves counting calories every now and again, especially during summer. For all my fellow dieters, I decided to see what diets were most popular among AOL Search users. Top Searched Diets on AOL Search:
1.Weight Watchers
2. Jenny Craig
3. HCG Diet
4. Gluten Free Diet
5. NutriSystem
6. South Beach Diet
7. Mediterranean Diet
8. Atkins Diet
9. Flat Belly Diet
10. Cabbage Soup Diet
All diets offer different ways of approaching the same goal: losing weight. Before you plunge in to a diet plan, it is important to shop around a bit for a diet program that will work best for you. Are you looking to lose weight quickly? An extreme diet like number 10, the Cabbage Soup Diet, will help you shed pounds fast. If you are looking for more long-term weight loss, try a weight loss program, like Jenny Craig (no. 2).
Number one on the list has been around since the 1960s. Weight Watchers allows you to keep eating the foods you like by monitoring them with a points system. Their famous meetings bring fellow dieters together in a support setting. If that isn't your cup of tea, you can also track your diet online.
The Gluten Free Diet, number 4, is much more than a diet; it is a lifestyle. Celebs like Jenny McCarthy and Elisabeth Hasselbeck swear by it. Both stars released books about the diet. McCarthy said eliminating gluten from her sons diet helped him recover from autism and Hasselbeck depends on the diet to control her celiac disease.
A recent study shows that following the Mediterranean Diet (no. 7) can help you live a longer life. The basic tenements of the diet promote moderate alcohol consumption, little meat and lots of vegetables. These tactics have been strongly linked to longevity. So tonight at dinner, pour yourself a glass of wine and dig in to some healthy vegetables and beans.

It seems to me with what a perfect machine the human body is, that it would be EASIER to be fit than to be unfit. What a crock that being healthy has to take so much work and effort, while bliping up and sagging takes one motion, hand to mouth.
I've been up and down my whole life and i've found nothing that consistently works other than spending every day at the gym. Who the hell has time for that. Not me. Not most people I know.

Eating right is important and I agree...less processed foods and more
fruits, veggies, natural grains and lean proteins worked for me. You
also have to get some exercise in!
I recently lost 40 pounds by making some life changes. I used to go
to the salad bar and eat too big of lunch and did not choose healthy
options from the salad bar..too many mayonaisy, carb options.
Instead I now go for a walk and bring a whole wheat pita sandwich
from home at lunch. I don't race walk, but do go for a 45 minute
brisk walk. I wear smartsole insoles that I read about in an article
on running and walking in Prevention mag Smartsoles
http://www.smartsole.com They are exercise insoles that tone muscles,
increase circulation and inable you to burn more calories with every
step. They are also very comfortable so I am able to walk faster and
longer. I found the code fit10 for 10% off. They do not fit in
pumps or sandals however. They are only good for sneakers, boots or
flat
shoes.
It has taken me about 8 months to lose weight, but I feel great and
it took me years to get heavy, so losing in a slow and healthy manner
without drugs or surgery is fine by me.

The word diet desscribes what a person eats; there are all kinds:restrictive, vegetarian, etc; therefore everyone is on a diet. Most restrictive diets have proved themselves to be failures. I recommend the book Protein Power as a good way to eat and do well!

I have tried the traditional diets over the course of my lifetime and found all were difficult. They worked, but left you unsatisfied all the time. Then my doctor put me on a low fat diet because I had high cholesterol and didn't like the effects of the medicines used to treat it. Boy, did the pounds come off. I made my own modifications and used as a rule of thumb that if the fat calories in the food were less than 20% of the total, I could eat it. I did not restrict my calories and ate sweets even. I had been around the field of industrial chemistry enough years to have learned that like makes like. In that case, that fat soluable products produced fat and water soluable products, on the other hand, did not. In other words, fat makes fat. As this relates only to weight loss, it is my theory only, but I'm convinced that if you don't eat fats, your body cannot make fat.

I weighed 146 pounds three months ago, and I am now down to 128. I have learned to cut out the sugar and starch from my diet and it works. If I get a sugar craving, I get a sugar free treat once a day and I cannot tell the difference between sugar and sugar free treats. The weight just fell off without going hungry or having to suffer through taking pills or using dangerous colon cleansers. Cut out the sugar and white flour and you will be amazed at the results you get. Stock up on one sugar free treat that you like, eat fruit, nuts veggies and lean meat and then sit back and watch the pounds disappear.

Hydration from pure water is so important. Just a 2% dehydration of the body can cause problems doing basic math, slows down the body, and increases food cravings. Slow down the speed in which you eat. Eat small, healthy snacks every couple of hours so meals become less important. Look for a supplement to fill in the gaps in your diet. No one can get all the nutrients, trace minerals, and vitamens needed from the American food supply. Laugh!!! Laughter burns fat and sends good feelings to the brain. Move the body. A simple shake and bounce of the body for 5 minutes each day helps push toxins out of the cells and into the blood where they can be removed from the body. I enjoyed reading "The Mars & Venus Diet & Exercise Solution" by John Gary, Ph.D.

Men and women gain and lose weight differently. We also eat for different reasons. One lifestyle isn't for everyone. Health and wellness should be your goal not a number on the scale. Talk to people who inspire you. Check out www.ultracare.isagenix.com as a source of healthy foods to fill the gaps in our American food supply.

Take Shape for Life weight loss program was developed by Johns Hopkins have medical studies to prove that their program works better with longer lasting results than any program on this list. If Weight Watchers worked so great in changing life styles then why do they sell life time membership?
Take Shape for Life uses Medifast, but gives you a health coach. It really works, is a very fast, easy to follow and affordable. Actually cheeper than any other program out there. So if you want to lose the weight, feel fantastic and lose the weight once and for all call Dr. Radke 620-960-3376 or visit www.DrKarlRadke.tsfl.com

I lost 40 pounds by watching calories. No help from anyone, just by myself and the only exercise I did was be a mom to my two year old. I was absolutely shocked that I was able to lose 40 pounds in six months! I added a lot more fruit and veggies to my diet. Tried to steer clear of processed foods. BUT I still eat what I wnat every now and then just watch how much of it I eat. Good luck to everyone and have faith you can do it. Prayer goes a long way.

I do not believe in diets. Simple common sense is what it takes. Everyone knows a chocolate sundae will have more calories than a piece of fruit. The most important exercise is pushing yourself away from the table. Several behaviors are very helpful. 1. Take reasonably sized portions. 2. Do not go back for seconds. 3. Eat slowly. 4. Do not eat if you are not hungry.
5. Do not eat until you feel "stuffed."
6. Drink plenty of water througout the day. 7. If you think you want more of something, wait five minutes and see if you still want it. Chances are you won't.

I should have included fiber to the list of natural ways to a healthy lifestyle. Many of our foods have little or no fiber. The body must have fiber to properly function. When adding fiber to your body you must also add more hydration from pure water. I keep saying pure water because water with flouride can alter the thyroid gland function and may cause many other side effects resulting in weight gain. Our bodies require pure water and foods free of toxins in order to maintain itself in a healthy state. Often times it's not the individual's fault for being overweight, it's the toxins in the food, water, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, etc that causes the body to be out of balance. portion control - www.portionpal.com

I have to put my vote in for Nutrisystem. I normally have minimal issues with weight control, but along with health issues found myself almost 100 lbs overweight after being quite ill for 15 years. I had tried to lose weight with Weight Watchers but after losing 11 lbs I seemed to get stuck although I stuck to the diet ... I finally got frustrated and gave up! Now I will say that I am unable, due to health restrictions to workout which has been a lifestyle that I have always loved and miss tremendously, and I am not young any more ... in fact I am a grandmother of 6 now ... but with the help of Nutrisystem ... I have now lost over 70 lbs. I was on Nutrisystem for 6 months then I have just continued watching my portion control for the last 6 month and have lost an additional 25 lbs I think it has been ... this diet plan has been successful for our daughter, our nephew and my husband. Now, I have to admit my husband regained his weight but HE CHOSE not to continue with portion control ... he is NOW back watching his portions and has lost in the past month almost 20 lbs ... so I am a true believer in this diet. The VAST choices of foods certainly are one of their secrets of their high success rate in my estimation! The expense is not high if one considers the cost of food at the grocery store ... believe me IF LOSING WEIGHT IS IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO YOU... then THIS is A GREAT not just a good diet!
