Summer will be here before we know it. It's such a great time for vacations, beach trips and visiting theme parks. What I love most about the theme parks, besides the thrilling rides, is the fun filled atmosphere. Where else can you pretend to be a kid again and get away with it?
Before I start planning my summer theme park visits, I decided to find out what the top searched theme parks were on AOL Search. Of course, I was not surprised when Disney World and Disneyland showed up at the top of the list. Who doesn't love hanging out with Mickey Mouse and friends? It was also recently announced that Disney just bought 15 acres in Maryland. Their plan is to build a new 500-room resort hotel at National Harbor, a touristy location that just opened up along the Potomac River a year ago.
Disney can get really expensive for a family, so it's nice to know that there are cheaper options that could be just as fun. I decided to do some research on Dollywood and Cedar Point. Dollywood located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, is a one-of-a-kind Smoky Mountain Family Adventure. Besides the rides, Dollywood is known for the best live entertainment that showcases country, bluegrass, mountain and gospel music.
Cedar Point located in Sandusky, Ohio, has 17 roller coasters, which is more than any other park in the world. If you are a coaster lover than this theme park is for you.
What is your favorite theme park? Did it make our list? If not try searching for theme parks on AOL Search or check out AOL Travel for special deals.

I have been to 9 of the 10 parks (I guess I need to get to Dollywood). I love Cedar Point and agree, if it was in Orlando, Disney would get pretty worried. I haven't been there in several years as I live in NY, but have already planed a trip this summer to go there and Kings Island with a friend. The thing I liked most was that it wasn't just about rides. I remember going to frontier land and making candles. The food at the time wasn't as commercialized as most amusement parks now. So hopefully that is the same.

Has anybody checked out the new roller coaster coming to Universal/Orlando. It looks wild!!! That plus the new "Harry Potter" land openning next year makes Universal my first chose.

I like Holiday World. They say it is voted the cleanest park in the world. The rollercoasters and rides are great. The lines go at a good pace and there are free drinks all day long! Holiday World is located in Santa Clause Indiana, about 50 miles from Evansville In. Check it out!

There is the East Coast, West Coast and they call Cedar Point the Roller Coast. Just recently visted Disney World, and it is great, but for rides, you have to go to Cedar Point. They are always adding rides.

Disney World by far has the best variety. Most parks gear toward the young (who can handle the roller coasters) and the old (who prefer the shows). We have been to the top 9 NUMEROUS times with our family, both young and old and by far they prefer Disney World. I was surprised to see Sea World so far down the list, they have added rides like Manta in Orlando which should move them up. No matter where you go, you can always find fault (cost, friendlyness) or fun. Disney's landmark customer service is not what it once was, but it still outshines most establishments. To that Disney World is our favorite, only second to the Disney Cruise Line. Have a Magical Day....

I do not like theme parks. I try to avoid going to them and only go when it is impossible to not go. I went to Disney in FL one time and absolutely refuse to go again. Deliver me from theme parks.

bring my delicious low cal fitflax brownies, protein bars and or a bag of 24 almonds. Brother, it is good to know you are that way. The normal people at Disney will give you plenty of room as you are one of the wierd ones. Little miss almonds too sweet for words. Oh yeh, push your "healthy" on all of us. You probably have a problem with Micky D's too!

Disney World is the Happiest Place on Earth!!!! To Candy6991 you should have been taking pictures for evidence and asked to speak to someone in charge instead of someone behind a desk.

Mary - check out allears.net. This was helpful to us for our last trip. We've been about 5 times. We've gone in Dec. a few times - once was about 85-90 each day and another time we wore jeans. It can also get quite crowded, but the decorations are great.

Kennywood, in western Pa., is about the most family friendly park I know. Great views and an imaginative use of local topography.

I have done alot of amusement parks over the years, and have been to quite a few. I was disappointed not to see Kennywood Park outside of Pittsburgh, Pa, and Hersheypark and also Knoebels not make the list. These parks rock and they don't cost you an arm and a leg to get in either and they are family friendly, clean and a pleasure to visit and spend the day there. Many of todays parks are overpriced and that includes the parking fees. With todays economy the way it is, you would think they would get with the program and lower their prices. For me Pennsylvania has the most bang for your buck when it comes to amusement parks.

Just as in Vero Beach Disney has a resort, they are planning on building a resort in Maryland. "The new resort hotel would be a stand-alone resort hotel and not related to the Disney theme parks." Headline was just a tease.
Disney does have the best experiance for theme parks. They are clean, friendly and very well organized. The businees model that they produce is one of the best.

I still prefer Disneyland over Disney World! There is just something enchanting about entering the Park where it all began. Walt Disney, Annette, Mickey Mouse Club all just seem to belong on the West Coast where it all was created. They seem out of place in Florida.

Out of all of the theme parks that I have been to, Disney World (in Orlando, FL) is the best. It's the only theme park where I have the most fun.

Knoebel's Grove in Pennsylvania is a wonderful "throwback" amusement park...from the carousel where you still reach for the ring, to the train ride through the woods (fun after dark!) to the best haunted house ride anywhere! It's inexpensive, friendly, and fun. Oh, and the food. . .I think I saw it on tv a few years back for having the best amusement park food. . .they make homemade waffle ice-cream sandwiches, making the waffles right in front of you. If you are within a 3 hour drive, it's worth it. Stay at a Country Inn and Suites or another clean hotel a few miles out. You will really feel like you went "away."
