Summer will be here before we know it. It's such a great time for vacations, beach trips and visiting theme parks. What I love most about the theme parks, besides the thrilling rides, is the fun filled atmosphere. Where else can you pretend to be a kid again and get away with it?
Before I start planning my summer theme park visits, I decided to find out what the top searched theme parks were on AOL Search. Of course, I was not surprised when Disney World and Disneyland showed up at the top of the list. Who doesn't love hanging out with Mickey Mouse and friends? It was also recently announced that Disney just bought 15 acres in Maryland. Their plan is to build a new 500-room resort hotel at National Harbor, a touristy location that just opened up along the Potomac River a year ago.
Disney can get really expensive for a family, so it's nice to know that there are cheaper options that could be just as fun. I decided to do some research on Dollywood and Cedar Point. Dollywood located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, is a one-of-a-kind Smoky Mountain Family Adventure. Besides the rides, Dollywood is known for the best live entertainment that showcases country, bluegrass, mountain and gospel music.
Cedar Point located in Sandusky, Ohio, has 17 roller coasters, which is more than any other park in the world. If you are a coaster lover than this theme park is for you.
What is your favorite theme park? Did it make our list? If not try searching for theme parks on AOL Search or check out AOL Travel for special deals.

Despite, the long lines, the overpriced tickets and food, I still happen to enjoy taking my kids to Disney World as they so love it. Just make sure you wear comfortable shoes and you bring some healthy snacks!
I always wear flat shoes or sneakers when I know I will be on my feet all day or walking a lot.

l like walt disney world, i work there and the difference between us and the rest is the fact that we consistantly offer a clean, safe, and family oriented park where people can have fun.

I can't stand Disney World..and the food offerings are disgusting! The amount of fried calories in a corn dog or one of their nachos platters is crazy. I will bring my delicious low cal fitflax brownies, protein bars and or a bag of 24 almonds

I love Disney vacations!! If you plan your vacations times right you can travel when it is less busy to avoid lines and heat. As far as the food - I have eaten all over WDW and I have certain places I just love and miss when we are away! Like LeCellier Steakhouse in Canada in the world showcase!! or even Jiko's at Animal Kingdom Lodge, or sitting down to a breakfast with Chef Mickey's! I book vacations for Disney all day everyday and can tell you where, when and how to do most all things in the world. Having a Travel agent doesn't cost a penny, but its worth $$$$$$$ on your side. Ask about the Free Dining promotion going on now or the 50% off kids sail cruise! OR even the New Adventures by DIsney vacations!

I grew up in Northeast Ohio and remember going to Cedar Point every year. Being almost 70-years-old myself, I know of its history. Even though I now live out of state, I went back 2 years ago. What wonderful memories and what fun to see the "new" rides.

I LOVE HERSHEY PARK!!! Why did that not make it on the list. Very family oriented, but fun for everyone. It has expanded so much in the water section. Lines are never bad and the food is great too! Reasonable prices too!

I love Disney world and Disney Land and I grew up near Hershey Park, in Pa and love it there and when we go back to visit family, we take the kids and they love it. I agree, that should have made the list too!! Disney might be overpriced, but we go every other year and its something the family just truly enjoys. There is something for everyone...swimming,rides, good food, golfing, arcades....I couldn't imagine going to disney and not having a great time, but you got to be willing to spend some money. Its not a fun time if your going to be cheap!

Knoebels Park near Dansville, PA is the finest park you can got to with a family of young and old. Free Parking, Day Pass or individual Ride Tickets, Campground, and being an avid lover of carousells and have riden over 50 of the remaining antiques carousels in the US, theres is the grandest and still offers the opportunity to pick the rings.

We took our daughter to Disneyland for her 11th birthday and to this day she is still having nightmares and is in counseling. Her daddy tries to make light and cheer it up, and during the day it works. He calls him Gangsta Mickey and she will laugh, but not at night. In line waiting to get the infamous mouse to sign her book, he turns to her, she was all smiles, and pushes her out of his way, she falls back and lands on a plastic bottle that someone had dropped. He steps on her, all the while she is screaming, not even the female staff that was standing there with Mickey stopped to see if she was okay. By the time we got to her, she was in tears. It had happend so fast and slow at the same time, like we were watching it is slow forward. We walked to town hall and made a complaint regarding the Mickey and his escort, while we were waiting a person was paged in the overhead speakers out in the park. My daughter thought that was pretty cool, the park could page you, she asked how do you get to be paged? The woman, blond, glasses, maybe her 40's by the name of Donna, looked to my daughter and softly told my 11 yr old that was just assaulted by the "Most loved character" her words not mine, "I shouldn't tell you but since you asked, when someone gets paged it usually means there has been a death in the park and we are trying to find their family."
Needless to say, we have never been back, won't be going back, she has sold/given away anything and everything Disney she has ever had. When she got back to school the following year, she wrote a report for her most memorable vacation, and the teacher thought she had made it all up. Everything was true I had to explain to the teacher, from the tickets not arriving until two days before we were to board the plane, the extra 3 hour layover that wasn't listed on our flight plan but was scheduled on everyone elses flight plan, the bus from airport refusing to take us to the hotel, the hotel being in such bad shape that we couldn't shut or lock the door and they were just going to leave us in that room, to the new room that they moved us into had mold, a recent electrical fire and the toilet never stopped running. All booked using Disney Vacations. And the best part is that after writing and writing and calling and sending in her report that after getting in touch with her teacher to verify it really did happen and wasn't made up - she got an A- I was told they couldn't do anything because I didn't put a return receipt on anything and they couldn't find anything. Not even an apology was offered. So, a wonderful vacation for 3 people, and hotel, seaworld, universal, san diego zoo, medival times, california adventures and flights for a 8 day stay, and transportation to everything for a little over $4,000.00 and we are still paying for counseling. Yeah, have fun, we aren't going back.

I grew up in Ohio and highly recommend Cedar Point. The location on a peninsula jutting out into Lake Erie on a beautiful summer day is incredible. Now living out of State, I always promote this Park as one of America's Greatest and the Staff are friendly as well.

Cedar Point is the best and cleanest park I have ever seen

I have been to ALL of the top 10 places listed. Disney World stands head and sholders above all the rest. It is by far our family's favorite place to visit (outside of cruises that is.)
By DAWillmore on May 20th 2009 at 9:52AM
cedar point is the ONLY place that i leave las vegas to visit. it IS the best amusement park in the united states.

We have been to ALL of the top 10 parks listed. In fact I live only 20 minutes from King's Island. Disney World is by far our family's favorite place to visit (other than cruises.) I have heard horror stories of some who have visited Disney, but when you stop to realize the very few bad experiences vs. the Hundreds of Millions who have visited over the last 30 + years, those are excellent odds.
