As the baby boomers begin to retire, retirement communities are becoming increasingly popular. Most of these communities offer luxury villas, golf courses, recreation and the lifestyle of your dreams.
Different from retirement homes, communities are specially designed for people who no longer work, but are not necessary needy of constant medical attention. The retirement communities provide extensive amenities to fill your days with 24-hour fitness centers, golf, swimming, pilates, arts and crafts, or anything else you desire. Many are built in warm climates and around big cities with lots to do, like Phoenix retirement communities.
So what are some of the best retirement locations?
Not surprisingly, Florida retirement communities are the most popular. Some of the top searched communities in Florida include The Villages, Hyde Park, and Iron Horse. Arizona is the second most popular state to retire to with spectacular communities such as Sun City Grand and Rio Verde. The spa at the Sun City Grand (No. 6) is so luxurious that even non-residents come to relax for the day.
If you are aiming to retire in one of these wonderful communities, it would be wise to visit a retirement planner to make sure you are building your retirement savings wisely. While we all can't retire wealthy, we can still retire smart.

I cannot believe NJ as #7 on the list for retirement. With the taxes cost of living and the traffic in that state you have to be an idiot to retire in that state. We were born and raised and worked in that state and after we both retired. we sold our home and got out as quick as we could. You cannot afford to live in that state unless you got lots of bucks.

What about New York City? There are so many fabulous things to do and you can get everywhere by walking or taking the bus. Retiring does not mean dead, and you would have the time to do all the great New York things, like all the fabulous museums and attractions that us working people do not have the time to do.
I have lived my whole life in New York and love the energy. I recently lost 40 pounds and do not belong to a gym. I slap a pair of smartsole insoles in my sneakers...and walk the fabulous streets or run errands, http://www.smartsole.com (they are insoles that fit in any flat shoe and tone muscles and cause you to burn more calories with every step....and are great for diabetics too as they increase circulation) A great walk is over the Brooklyn bridge where you can treat yourself to the world's best pizza at Grimaldi's
The code fit10 give you 10% off on smartsoles, it was just listed on an Oprah board and is good till the end of the month.

Why can't AOL do something about all the people who are commenting just to sell something? It would be nice to read real comments.

I find it very hard to believe NJ is #7. People in NJ are dying to get OUT!!! Taxes are outrageous! NJ is for the richie riches - the middle and lower class are strugling to stay here. I can't wait to get out!

I completely agree with Carolyn. Nine comments and eight are strictly hawking bizarre products. These are not advetising boards. I'm no computer expert, but there has to be a way to block any post not relevant to the topic. None of us want to read that stuff.

New Jersey? you must be joking. NJ is the butt hole end of this country. Most corrupt, overtaxed, overpriced, expensive, overpopulated (why, good question)state in the union, and that was 25 years ago, before I moved out of that god forsaken dump.

New York City is a great place to retire. When you get old, your biggest problem isn't the weather - it's mobility, and there is nothing better or more helpful than a place where everything you want is within a block, and everybody delivers.

I live in The Villages and it is like paradise. There's so much to do here that one never gets bored. There are many types of houses for all incomes. The people here are all very friendly, and, although we are growing by leaps and bounds, we still have a small town feel in our many villages. The weather is great and everything is beautiful, from our landscaping to our many recreation centers. We have entertainment every night at our two squares, all free. It's just a great place to live. WE have many opportunites to give back to society and we do. Come visit us and see for yourself. We welcome all.

I can't believe you put NJ on the list for retirement. I lived in the Seabrook area for years and watched it go to hell. Most of my relatives in the area moved out of state because of the cost. Apparently you didn't visit the area. Plus, NJ will tax all your remaining money. Stay out of NJ.

N.J. as a retirement State? N.J. is the most poluted, over taxed state in the union. Glad I got out of there and retired to The Villages, Fl. Never
regreted the move after 13 years.

Donna, who lives in The Villages in Florida, my husband and I have been researching your area. My husband's brother lives closeby in Leesburg. Having lived in Orlando for two years myself, a couple of great things about Florida are: (1) the weather; and (2) the lack of state income taxes and food taxes. People asked me all the time when I lived in Orlando, "Don't you miss the change of seasons?" No, not really, when you have seven to eight months of the year that the weather is ideal. Anyway, if you live in the South, summers are just as hot here as in Florida. If I never see another snowflake again or don't have to scrape my car windshield, I would happy as a lark. We plan to make a trip down to Florida to check it out and we'll take a look at The Villages while we're there. It's nice to hear from someone who lives there.

The most influential book I have read that seriously changed my life was "How to Become Filthy Rich on Your Current Income" at www.how-to-become-rich.com. It completely changed my life. God bless the author.

So funny that u log on here and see the VILLAGES as a place to retire...I have relatives that moved there when it wasn't even on the map! They were all young retirees in their early 50's and are never at a loss for things to do, even now they are in their 70's and wear me out when I go to visit! ..U want to stay young? Move to the Villages! There is a lot to do and it is close to Orlando and Tampa airports..They even have their own hospital and two Walmarts! What more can one ask for ? I am 53 myseld and would consider moving there in the next few years! ..NJ ??? NO WAY HOOSAAAAY !!! >>> U must me crazy! ...

New Jersey is the greatest - its got hilly country, 100 miles of beaches, the Pine Barrens, and a diverse population. Phoenix - been there a dozen times - old people inside their air-conditioned homes taking naps while its 115 degrees outside. Talk about boring! Zzzzzz. Jersey Rocks!

I do not want to be mean spirited or a nut case....However...as the saying goes: 'You Decide' About a few months ago I saw on both a local news tv Fox or Wink here in Naples Florida as well as on a national station broadcast about the 'Villages' in Florida as having the highest STD rates in the nation, or something close to this. No I am not making this up. Friendly enough for you?

Why did yoy ever put New Jerey on your retirement list? Any money you have when you retire will be gone in a few years. Everything is expensive except gas. Not much sunshine either. Can't wait to leave.
