Please 24 hour, Gold's look at Texarkana, Texas - Arkansas we are the second largest growing economy in Texas. We have Mom and Pop gyms which charge over $700 for six months and they close at 8PM and closed on Sunday's. New to the area is Anytime Fitness which is 24/7 but no lockers at all and only three showers which means cold showers. A big name with 24/7 hours and much cheaper fees would do well with all the attention on working out with the Biggest Loser programs and the Doctors on cable. In Las Vegas I joined Gold's after the big remodel and new gyms went up and enjoyed a special promotion $100 a year gym fees for life. That was great I think it was a promotion to get cash flowing after all the new gyms opened in the valley. I found the staff very supportive and never needed someone to push me and found most "personal trainers" in it for just the money. I had Dennis Rodman for out next to me once but got off the cross trainer as I didn't want him to sweat on me, ha ha. Man did/does he have a lot of holes and tats.
Back to Texarkana it has some booming areas north of I-30 most are doing very well a new eating establishment after construction will be packed as is the new multi movie theater.
If a big name gym arrives many will drop the Mom and Pop expensive gyms that close a 8 PM and having a locker to put your clothes when it's cold would be a plus as dragging a gym bag around sucks.
Ok whoever is first Gold's or 24 hour fitness in town would do great. I find the Anytime fitness more and more crowded as peoples contracts with the Mom and Pop gyms expire. Lot's of people working out in gold's gym wear so Gold's expand and 24 hour your linked with the Biggest Loser if you build here you won't be. Most people realize it's the gym atmosphere that gets you to workout as most home equipment become clothes hangers.
Ok enough of the cry out for help.
Peace and pray for this country doesn't get attacked with all the new and strange appointments to national security postions.

If you are going to bad mouth a particular gym, out of fairness, you should mention which location. All Gold's Gyms are independently operated. I happen to work for one and its a great club. Trainers will absolutely never drop a client and billing issues or cancellation requests are always handled in a timely matter. Problems only arise when the client fails to provide the needed information. Most members who have left our club for whatever reason always later say how friendly and helpful our staff is.

While it isn't the best customer service practice, some trainers to enact policies like this. If they have a lot of clients and not enough space for new ones, they may drop clients who are not producing results. It's not just at Gold's that this happens.

My husband and I have used a lot of gyms in the last 20 years and have found Gold's to be the best. He travels a lot and, with a travel pass, is usually able to find a Gold's Gym everywhere he goes. I like the separate facilities for the woman and men and particularly like the staff - they are always helpful and upbeat.

Isn't it against the law to have a gym that only caters to women? Something just sounds illegal to me.

I am in the Gym business in Atlanta Ga. I have been an owner for 25 years. We always see a crush of new people come in during the month of January and then 80% will fad away within 4 weeks. We all have resolutions that we want to keep and it not easy.
One product that many gym users are trying and my members love it can be found at www.StimRx.com The product is an electronic muscle stimulator. Also check our www.Russianstim.com for fighting fat and toning muscle.

"Curves" have been probe to be a good only female gym. Why don't we have a MEN ONLY gym like in Europe? Could be call "Lines" for guys looking for a serious work out...surely will be less distracting and more effective as guys act much different when females are not around.

Im so glad that Lucille Roberts isn't on this list. That place is a dump!! The northeat philly branch has no trained professionals on site, only high school girls that make non-stop sales calls. it is such a rip off. I would never go back there again!!!!

For me looks like the smaller women's club is the way to go. Physique Fitness is open about 2 years now and they seems to be changing in a positive way with women's needs and issues. For us women it's not only the body, but mind and spirit as well. They have everything support groups, classes and personal training and their training is not given by young, inexperienced young women. They are women with true life experience and can relate to people over 35! I know it is the best in Brooklyn for me and alot of other women if they would just take the chance and the price is more than right. They don't rip you off when you walk in the door over priced registration fees and excessive monthly dues.

I've been a member of L.A. Fitness for over 23 years. They opened in 1984 with one gym in Covina, Calif and I joined in 85. They allow you to renew under your original contract so it only costs me $50 a year membership. Mostly I just take to Spinning classes a week there but I really get my money's worth. Great instructors there. My only complaint is that they stopped putting steamrooms in their new gyms and sometimes I like to go just to relax in the steam then cool off in the pool. Otherwise I think they're great gym. When I joined there was just the one gym. Now there's probably 150 or so of them so they've done a steady expansion over the years.

Life Time Fitness puts all these gyms to shame -- hands down. They don't have many locations but if you have an opportunity to visit one DO IT!

I live just outside Baltimore. My wife and I joined a SNAP Fitness Center two years ago, just after my heart replacement surgery. It is handy, inexpensive, loaded with up-to-date equipment and courteous staff. The chain is nation-wide and while visiting in St Louis I used the Snap Center in O'Fallon. Again, friendly and helpful. In my estimation, SNAP belongs in your Top 10.

I work for a great free-standing fitness center in Sunrise, Florida called Fitness21. I only wish it was a national chain, because their business plan and organization allow members to receive a high level of service without unnecessary costs. They are one of the few fitness centers to employ full-time daily cleaning staff. In addition, all trainers at the center must first be nationally certified and then attend a fitness academy to make sure they provide the highest level of professionalism. All members attend a classroom setting "peak" class to learn about the interaction of nutrition, cardiovascular exercise, and the concern for muscle. This is a unique and affordable setting. I hope they go national!

My wife and I are members of 24 Hour Fitness but are becoming disillusioned becauise they take forever to repair equipment. They do not stock replacement parts but have to order from the factory, often taking weeks or months to replace a simple bolt in a workout machine. Yellow Out-of-Service tags have become more frequent and they remain in place for months. You would think they would more care about retaining members and keep their machines in order.
