I had a Gold's membership hated going there, I really think you have to be in love with yourself because god knows there is no room for anyone else. Bailey's the price wasn't bad and am thinking about going back there but the thing with Bailey's is you have to ignore everyone or your 45 min workout ends up being 3 hours. I find if you want a nice body, eat small meals eat every 3 to 4 hours and super sets, nothing gives you more results then super setting and kick boxing. Feel the burn and don't forget to rest so muscle's can build up because even after your workout your still burning calories

there is a small, but great, all women's gym in the dyker heights section of brooklyn. it is located on 13th ave & 70th street. it is a fully equipped gym: treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, pin loaded weight training equipment, free weights, and exercise balls. they offer a sufficient amount of classes in pilates, dance-a-size, total body boot camp, yoga (2 levels). all classes are included in the membership. they offer personal training, also. every member receives an orientation session with their registation, however, at any time a member can get the help they need with the equipment so that they can maximze their workout routine. the group of women range in age from mid teens to 90 years old!! the average age is about 40. it is open 7 days a week. i highly recommend everyone checking it out. the staff is wonderfully accomodating.

I have read all the comments here and I would like to say the common denominator here is Gold's Gym with their unethical business practices. Here in North Myrtle Beach, Gold's closed unanounced overnight on January 3, and put a sign on the door transfering memberships to a place down the street under a new name in a converted conference/ball room as a "temporary" location. Nobody's happy. Very unethical and cowardly. A previous poster said it right Gold's is a joke! It has become more of a car dealership than what it was intended to be in 1965. Let me say for the record however Myrtle Beach's original Gold's is still up and run by great people Ted and Nancy Capp. But this is the only one.

I can't believe NYSC isn't on the list. Their trainers are educated, they keep their certifications up to date, they keep their equipment up to date. That's the gym to go to if you want to change. There's so much I can say about how great NYSC is but the bottom line is no matter what you want to do, lose weight, firm up, get healthy that's the place to go.

Planet Fitness is the place to work-out. It is very affordable, and judgment free. Oh and its equipped with a "lunk alarm"

Those are gay clubs just as much as they are fitness clubs.

There's no need to spend a lot of money on going to the gym anymore. Just go to " RETRO FITNESS ". They have the most modern equip in a beautiful retro decor for a measley $19.99 a month.

The energy of a live class can be super motivating but for me it's not always convenient. I have found that the fitness community at www.allnewyoufitness.com keeps me motivated and challenged. My next house is definitely going to have to have a decked out gym!

For those of you concerned about working out in a "hot body" gym (because you're not there yet!), research your area for wellness centers or gyms associated with hospitals. They don't tend to draw the "meat market" crowd, yet can provide excellent services and equipment. I love One Nineteen Health and Wellness in Birmingham, AL, and have lost almost 100 lbs. since joining, and am now a fitness instructor myself.

All of these gyms all serve some sort of purpose, but most of them are largely a waste of space. Try crossfit.com and see if there is one in your area. As long as your not trying to be a professional bodybuilder this is the best chain in the nation. I am not even a member, because there was not one close to my house untill last month but i had found them and gymjones.com on line and modeled my workouts after them and spent about $500 on all that i would need to make a very effective down and dirty home gym.

Alright if anyone has read or skimmed most of these entries please read this! Hospital associated gyms can be very beneficial and have a friendly environment, but are almost always very expensive at around $50/month or higher. Xsport, LA Fitness, Gold's, Bally's etc. are fairly pointless unless you have an ego you just have to share (plus these are the worst places to get taken by sales associates). Bodybuilders think they need one, but since genetics are about 90% of becoming a prosperous bodybuilder those few just need to buy a set of weights for their basement. Talk about the most unimaginative exercises ever. Curves, Women's Workout World, and Planet Fitness all have a certain place in this world for the affordable and friendly environment craving type. And it is great that they are there. Most middle aged women will not workout anywhere except for an all women's gym, so if that is what it takes so be it. I know Planet fitness is not a women's only gym, gym but the weights are so limited ther and the cardio so abundant that it is really only good beginners, maintainers and females. Again not a bad purpose, but now for everyone who is not allowed in to that second to last category and is beyond the purpose of the last choice, there is still the Alternative. And it really is a sort of alternative gym. Crossfit (crossfit.com). If you don't hve one near you, just look at all the free videos they have on their website and spend literally only a few hundred dollars (wait for a sale on Kettlebells and make your own medicine balls with a beach ball, sand and duct tape) and you will have a home gym superior to any membership out there. Plus crossfit has an online community to help keep you motivated and provide competition and daily workouts. There are other web based fitness communities out there and feel free to search them up, but most that i have seen are simply all about trying to look "hot". Don't let appearences affect your workout, your workout WILL effect your appearence.

This is to the manager of Planet Fitness. I am sure that most of the things you are saying about your gym which include the savings are true but your gym and its employees lack professionalism and responsiblity. A friend of mine was there recently and got all of her belonging stolen out of a locker. Her purse was missing which held her passport, money, $800 money order for rent, and countless other valuable items. The best your staff could do was give her $2 to get on the subway. What they should have done was call the police, filled a report, and made sure that this woman was compensated because it happened in your locker room. No need to worry though after having told this story to a good samaritan on the street he instructed her to go back to planet fitness and call the police. The police officer made sure she was compensated for most of the money lost, but I assure you she will never return!

I agree with the Gold's haters on here. It was the worst experience of my life. They treated me like crap and my 3 year old was expelled from their kids care because he said he would blow up the building with his laser eye. I mean if he actually used his laser eye I can see a problem but whatever! Don't leave your kids with the incompetence at the gym in Shallote NC.

I prefer to use the YMCA. I know where it's going to be next year and they have a swimmable pool. Now lap swimmer wants to use an overheated minipool!
