I used to love taking the yoga classes at the Equinox near me. I now can no longer afford to go. I switched to 24 hour fitness which is closer to my home, nver crowded (much cheaper) and as a nurse I love that I can go at crazy hours. I do yoga at home too I do Wai Lana dvds which gives you a work out. I then stretch my toes out with SmartToes exercisers (bought on Amazon) which are toe stretchers/exercisers that make my toes feel human after being shoved in heels all day.

All the gyms listed are good. It really depends on your budget, your flexibility and what amenities you are looking for.
Being really busy and traveling a lot I went with an online gym solution and have been doing home and hotel workouts. It’s a very well known company that has been in business for over 10 years and whose trainers are on TV.
They offer ordinary people extraordinary results.
Believe it or not I’ve lost over 6% bodyfat and 20lbs using bands and DVD’s in 4 months.
Most of my friends and colleagues are in the fitness or health industry and I can call upon anyone for advice. A few years back I used to laugh about this online gym thinking it was all bull.
I’m a true believer and can back it up with my results.
The online gym I use has a great newsletter, online forum/discussion area and offers prizes for working out. http://www.freeonlinegym.com

Gold's Gym is a HORRIBLE place to work out. While the facilities may be nice, the people and their ethics are another issue. I was "dropped" by a personal trainer because I "wasn't losing weight fast enough and I wasn't making the gym look good." While this may be a one in a million mishap, it's disgusting and of course the gym won't respond to any further complaints I've had. I lost 23 inches and 6 pounds in 2 months, and apparently it isn't good enough. Buy equipment for home. Gold's Gym is a joke and they have terrible business practices.

My darling husband and I just joined a gym that I'm surprised is not on this list. We bought the membership as a Christmas gift to each other. It's called The Rush and the link is www.therush247.com We enjoy it alot!

Friends don't let friends buy a contract at Bally's. Hands down the biggest scammers in the business. Be sure and have your attorney read over their contract. Just do a google search for "ballt's complaints" or check out http://complaintwire.org/Complaint.aspx/_rOEfnsVcwA8mwjJezMn_w
Good luck.

I don't care for Gold's Gym either. They have a TERRIBLE automated billing process that will never cancel you without a law suit. Rediculous! The employees only care about you if you're signing up to join, or are referring a bunch of friends to join. Then, the honeymoon is over and they drop you off like a bad prom date. Workout from home, it's cheaper and easier. I do many of the Les Mills classes on dvd from home. I buy them from a friend, and they are AWESOME!

I had Gastric Bypass surgery in June of 2006. I was using a walker to help me get around. I was losing weight but not working out. Then in Feb of 2007 I got a note in the mail that my local Curves had a special trial offer, so I went. All the trainers were surprised that I was able to work out there. It is low impact but you can make the workout as hard as you want. I started going three times a week and was finally able to walk without the walker. I found out that I needed to have 2 total hip replacements sot I book the first surgary in Sept of 2007 and had 7 weeksthat I went 4 times a week. It made recovery so much easier. I have lost a total of 150 lbs and continue to work out. It is great because no one cares how you look and most of the people are just like you are, trying to loose weight and get healthy. I had my second hip replacement surgery in Sept of 2008 and I had not been able to work out as hard as the last time. This surgery was harder to recover from. I am still trying to build up my strength. I have only been been aable to return to workout at Curves since December 15,2008, but the improvement is showing I now can get by without my cane most of the time. I only feed it if I am walking a lot. Curves has helped me lose weight and firm and tone my body. People ar always commenting on how good I look. Most people can't believe I have lost so much weight because my body is toned and firm. I went from a size 26 - 28 to a size 4. I never thought I would be in a single didget size. I am smaller than when I got married, and 5 of my 6 children are heavier than I am. My 14 yr old is almost as tall as I am, 5'3", and is very slim. I contine to eat my new life style from the gastric bypass and keep feeling better by working out at Curves. Try it if you can, it was a lifesaver for me.

I go to Curves and I have lost 13.5 lbs in 4 months! I feel much better too. I used to have equipment at home and would never use it. I find that if I have to pay for it, then it encourages me to go.

Curves is the best. I wouldn't go any place else.

Curves is the best place. I'm there about 4 days a week. It works.

I belong to Gold's, even though the one I go to has been here since the time of the Romans, but it is never crowded and the rates to join and monthly dues are good vs. a place like LA Fitness or Bally's. I work out by myself, listem to my I-Pod and avoid speaking to anyone there since you do not know their sexual Preference, most Gays go to Bally. As far as working out at home, if you could afford all of those gadgets and crap they have on the market, you could spend thousands and most will end up collecting dust.

I LOVE Curves!!! I've worked out most of my adult life, but it's always been hard for me to get in a good structured workout. I signed up for Curves thinking it was really for older ladies, but I LOVE it! I can work out at a harder pace or a softer pace (around "that time of month") and it's the most well-balanced workout I've ever done. I feel it, but I'm never sore. In a matter of a few months, I was in the best shape I'd been in in years! It's the best $34 a month I've ever spent!

I go to LA Fitness. I use their personal training and have lost more than 6% body fat and more than 12 inches in 4 months! At home (or working out alone) you have noone to be accountable to. Personal training is a great investment in my health. Not to mention my trainer is wonderful.

I may be biased because I am the general manager of a Planet Fitness, but we are by far the best value for the dollar for anyone wanting to come and work out, be left alone and not feel intimidated. Our motto is the "Judgement Free Zone," where we strive to provide a non-intimidating atmosphere for everyone. We cater to first-time gym users and general health and fitness and deter the body-builders and power lifters from using our facilities. We have no problem with them, but with our weights ending at 75lbs, PF may not be the place for them. We have memberships as low as $10/month or $19.99/month if you want to use our state-of-the-art tanning facilities, brand new massage chairs or if you want to bring a friend in everyday with you when you come in. All of our memberships even include FREE group fitness training. If you are looking for somewhere where you can go work out and you do not want to pay for certain frills such as a steamroom, pool or hot tub, check out planetfitness.com and see what a great company it is! And we're not claiming bankruptcy anytime soon like our competitor!
