Doing laundry isn't a fun chore, but it can be one of the most simple with a good washing machine and dryer. Check out our list of the top searched washers for some of our users' favorites.A washer is an investment, so make sure you chose one that meets all your needs and will withstand the test of time. While some washers have lots of bells and whistles, like a touch screen, they don't necessarily make it any better. However, other extras like a hand-wash cycle and extra detergent or bleach dispensers can make your life a lot easier.
While browsing, also consider whether you want a front-loading or top-loading washer. Front-loading washers are considered to be more gentle on your clothing and use less water and energy. Top-loading washers are known to be less noisy and hold more clothing per wash cycle.
Along with finding a washer with a good warranty, choose one with structural integrity. Look for washers with a plastic or stainless steel drum so that it won't rust.
Before heading out to the appliance store, measure the space you plan to put your washer and dryer. If you have limited space, consider a space-saving washer dryer combo, like number 8 on our list.

Recently purchased a Bosch front load washer and dryer. We`ve been giving them a serious workout for the last six months and really love them. They are very energy efficient and very quiet and they are also made in the U.S.A.

Please don't buy a G.E.
They are not worth carring home.

no mention of Samsung's new VR (vibration reduction) washer. #1 in Consumer Reports (2/09 issue). Just got a pair at Lowe's where a !0% off sale just ended. These machines have VR like they do on the higher end Canon and Nikon cameras. No, not more rubber mounts - real VR technology to counter vibration and shake. NO MORE RATTLES FOR 2nd FLOOR WASHERS.

we moved to new place which have whirlpool appliances. god what a poor quality. we had problem with every unit in the house. We complained about washer damaging our clothe. At Whirlpool repair center they said they never heard about this problem.
What a lie. shame on you whirlpool. Where is your pride. My clothe still get damaged during every wash.
No help or care from whirlpool corporation Canada
they also produce Kitchen aid,Inglis, Kenmore, Roper and now Maytag.Keep away from garbage unless you want to complaint to Whirlpool corporation Canada with no results. I had my appliances for just over one year.Technician serviced my appliances was very good, from Handy appliances in Vancouver but he can do so much. There is no help from Whirlpool corporation of Canada.Forget about customers satisfaction, they don't care.

I have had a "no extra bells and whisles" Maytag since 1972 with only two service calls for a total of $250.00. They just don't make anything that will last that long (and still functioning well!!)

My original Maytag washer and dryer were nearly 30 years old and never had a service call. I thought I needed new for efficiency and an updated look. The new Maytag set I spent a fortune for turned out to be absolute junk and lasted not even 2 years. The washer, which was to be "quiet" was a total joke. It was so loud and beat the clothes to threads, even on the delicate cycle. The serviceperson remarked that had I had a family and a heavier laundry load they wouldn't have lasted even that long. I did not even try to sell them to recoupe my money because of service issues. They were just hauled away to the dump. After doing hours of research and asking many questions, I spent another small fortune and purchased the Bosch Nexxt 500 Series. The washer motor is so finely tuned and so quiet all you hear is the water sloshing back and forth. It is a pleasure to do laundry now and worth every dollar. Leave it to German engineering!!

I paid plenty for my top loading Maytag at Lowe's (stainless steel drum etc.). When 1 year and 2 months old , the water pump went. I called Maytag and was told that Whirlpool bought them out. The repairman traveled from NJ to PA and told me that the 1 year warrantee expired two months previously. The pump was covered by the 2 year waranty but the service charge was high. Two months later, the spin cycle didn't work. More service charges-- plus a parts fee. The Maytag ads are deceptive and dishonest. I would never buy another Maytag/Whirlpool product. My old GE lasted 20 years.

LG's are made in China I believe, so I'll give it three years and then it will die! I had a CD player that lasted one year, a paper shredder that lasted 30 seconds and if you notice all the taillight bulbs on cars that are not lit lately, they're all made in China! JUNK!

We bought a ROPER washer & dryer set (made by Whirlpool) when our son, now 18, was 1 yr old. We washed 5doz diapers a week plus regular laundry. Since we've had the set we have had NO PROBLEMS!we've only had to replace the thermostat in dryer once, about year or so ago. both units get alot of use and they aren't fancy but they are great. I would buy "roper" again.

I'm an appliance repairman...so listen up! Maytag appliances built before Whirlpool bought Maytag are junk! If you want quality, go with Whirlpool or LG, the exception being the Whirlpool Cabrio. Technology wise, the Cabrio is ahead of its time, but the reliabity isn't there yet. If your clothes get really dirty, get a top-loader. front loaders use less energy and water, but the trade-off is they don't clean as well. Front loaders need to placed on a solid concrete floor, or vibration issues develop. Also, clean the pockets of clothing thouroughly before putting them in front-loader, otherwise the objects will find thier way into the pump and damage it.

I had a Maytag for many years, after my uncle and his family decided they wanted a new one. I had it for at least 5 years. It was GREAT! Then, I got a Gaffler & Statler, oh, what a problem, that was. I had that one less than 2 years. Back to Maytag, I went. That one lasted 26 years. Now, for the last 4 years, I've had a GE, and I'm very happy with it. I had size restrictions, so the GE was the only one narrow enough.

I HAVE A WHIRLPOOL FRONT LOADER AND THE DRYER. I HAD THEM STACKED ON DRAWERS. IT HAS BEEN 4 YEARS NOW AND NEVER A PROBLEM. I LIKE THAT IT DOESN'T TEAR MY CLOTHES! NEVER ANY PROBLEM WITH SOFTNERS, BLEACH, OR SOAP. WHIRLPOOL DUET IF FOR ME. ALSO THE DRYER RACK FOR THE DRYER IS THE BEST FOR SHOES AND SWEATERS. THANK YOU WHIRLPOOL!!!!!!

we have a 3 year old sears kenmore.. we previously owned a maytag that had an internal leak!!! went to put in on one day and got zapped!!!!!.. our sears is a top loaded which always needs an extra spin cycle to get the extra water out!! should have gotten a front loader because i wash clothes every day!!!one more load i will put my hair in a braid and open a laundry!!! if you ask 10 people their opinions.. you get 10 different experiences/opinions!! money is a serious issue with us like many others so after our settlement with maytag we bought a sears kenmore top loader.. it is very noisy but we are seldom in our basement for long periods of time..it's the excess water that annoys me!! judy.

Maybe the Neptune is searched most often because it breaks down so frequently. Mine does. I wish I had never gotten rid of my 1974 model of Kenmore top of the line machine. It worked perfectly until 2001. All it needed was a gasket of some sort, and the technician told me parts would no longer be produced for this model because it broke down so infrequently. So I boutht a new one when I moved. BIG MISTAKE. Things aren't made as well now as before. PLANNED OBSOLESSENCE is the reason.
