Country music elicits a strong reaction from almost everyone. Either listeners squeal with excitement and reach for the volume dial to turn it up, or they moan with distaste and change the song immediately. Although everyone is entitled to their own opinion of music, the second group of music aficionados often fails to appreciate the finely crafted lyrics and twang of guitar in country songs. With notable exceptions (such as Kenny Chesney's 'She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy'), country musicians aren't afraid to delve deep into their emotions, be it lonesome, heartbroken or rowdy. Their songs resonate with deep passion and feeling. Check out our top searched list of country musicians on AOL Search for some of the best .
Topping the list are two of the newest up-and-coming country singers. Taylor Swift has been singing, writing songs, and learning guitar since she was young. Now, at 18, she tops pop and country music charts with singles like "Teardrops on My Guitar." Number two on our list got her start from singing live on the popular show American Idol. Now, Carrie Underwood has her song 'Just A Dream' climbing up the top country music list.
If you were lucky enough to have concert tickets to performers like Tim McGraw and Keith Urban, you already know how exciting and entertaining a country music concert can be. If you love a good show, check out tour dates coming to your local music hall.
For some good ole' acoustic guitar songs, search for some new country music from other musicians on our list, like Toby Keith and Brad Paisley. Several sites offer cheap music downloads so you don't have to break the bank while exploring out new artists. You can also listen to country music on the radio for free on AOL Radio.

I agree with Joanie M. There are alot of other GOOD country singers out there other than just the classic country singers like George Jones or Loretta Lynn. I think that Reba, Kelly Clarkston, Carrie Underwood, Sugarland, Brad Paisley, and several more are great!!! Not all of them "scream" all the time when they're singing. The one thing that I don't like is the people that are using country as a last ditch effort to make money. Such as Jessica Simpson or Kid Rock (even though I like him). It seems like they are not making any money at what they're doing so they switch to country to try and make money. We need to give these people a chance. I'm not gonna complain about any of them because I just wish I had HALF of the talent that some of them have. If theres something you don't like, then just don't listen to it, don't complain about them or put them down. I'd like to see you get up there on stage in front of thousands of people and sing....

I know we all have different opinions about music, but yall know the old saying that opinions are like A S S HOLES, we all have 1 and they are all different. So i can agree and disagree with most of yall. I was born and raised in the mtns. in east tn. and grew up listening to the old country, bluegrass and gospel music. I stil live in the same holler I grew up in and I still love the music. I listen to all kinds of music, AC/DC,Ozzy,Hank Jr. and Ralph Stanley are a few of my favs. But country music has changed and like "Blue Kentuky Girl" posted, the first thing I thought of when I started reading these posts was the song "Murder On Music Row". I agree 100% with that song because if any of the real, old country singers tried to make it in music now, Nashville would laugh and run them out of town! I love alot of the new country music and I'm very glad to see an African/American man back on the charts. Its been prob. 20 or more years since that happened, and I think Darius Rucker (i think thats his name) is a awesome singer and deserves to be on country musics charts. And as far as I'm concerned, MARK POST #11, sounds to me like you need a good ole REDNECK A S S WHOOPIN!! and also for MARK & ROD (post #18) if yall dont like our music, turn the dam station and listen to something else!!!

Gene ~ thanks for the mention of Bobby Bare. You probably enjoyed the music of Tom T. Hall; both were good writers. My favorite country singers of all time are Buck Owens, Johnny Paycheck and Mac Wiseman. Their songs, "Together Again", "For a Minute There" and "Shackles and Chains" define country music for me. Bobby Bare was a handsome dog in his day and I still play his CD every now and then, 'specially "Clayton Delaney"
Again, thanks! Blue Kentucky Girl

I like the new country, which is really only revamped southern rock. Since the real SKYNYARD isint around anymore this is what fills the void.
Not a mention about LITTLE BIG TOWN which is the best and most talented country artists around period.

I only like a few new ones Brad paisley,Trace Adkins,Alan Jackson,Sugarland.I am more partial to older country don't like the hollywood glitter bare

could ever stand up to J.Cash,Wayland,Willie,George Conway,E.Tubb,H.Williams Sr.,Ray Price,Merl,The Hagg,
Loretta,Kitty,B.Bare,J.Reeves,M.Robbins,Webb Pierce,
G.Autry,E.Arnold,H.Snow,C.Rich,C.Gayle,D.Parton,
J.Dean,C.Pride,R.Acuff,P.Cline,J.Rodgers,J.Horton,
Stonewall,F.Husky,H.LocklinTammy,Buck,Faron,Skeeter Davis. On and on these people were country.
Didn't need all the gimmics to put their song through. The song Brad just did with Andy was great so some of the new artist get it what country's really about. Not just a money making machine but country soul.

Miranda lambert is NOT country..I agree with the others, she screams and you can't understand a thing she is singing!
I saw her at Kenny Chesneys concert, and she was booed by many! Couldn't wait to get her off that stage! Nothing she sang made any sense! She is AWFUL! No other word for it....

DISAPPOINTED: It didn't have anything to do with her size. At one point, Jennifer Nettles was considering going out on her own. That is when Kristen Hall decided to leave the group. I don't know where she is now. Try google.

Where is Alan Jackson? Where is Randy Travis? Where is Phil Vassar? Where IN THE NAME OF GOD IS George Strait???????? Rascal Flatts?
By JLGT on Oct 3rd 2008 at 10:31AM
Sugarland was better when they still had Kristen Hall. Her harmonies blended so nicely with Jennifer's ... and she is a great songwriter. Too bad it didn't work out for her to stay with the band.

I grew up on the classics like George & Tammy,Merle,Johnny,Loretta, all the good ones--I can enjoy and appreciate some of the newer country artists but some have just been overplayed--Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift are beautiful young women with good voices but they've been so overplayed till I'm so sick of hearing them that when they come on I change the channel or station before even giving them a chance--for God's sake give someone else a chance to sing--and leave Miranda alone --she's a country girl with a little wild side--which most of us country girls have--she just has the balls to get out there and show it---

Most music today is crap. Country music is getting to be like pop music in many ways-all looks and no substance. The most annoying artist to me is Sugarland. Jennifer Nettles is nothing but a screamer, and her voice is so nasal it is like nails on a chalkboard. Her twang is exaggerated and fake-sounding. I liked the first song, "Baby Girl", but after that, forget it. The heavy-set lady that was in the group "quit" before the second album, which I think was all to convenient. I think that she was forced out because she was a little older and because of her size.

personally i despise country music. that being said, all the people talking about "old" country music mention willie nelson, conway twitty, etc. if you want really old country music, listen to the carter family. THATS "country" music.

I'll tell you 3 girls that are outstanding musicians and song writers and that is the dixie chicks. Think what you want but they are really great. And americans now see they were right about Bush. One little opinion made a bunch of idiots of our country black ball them and try to ruin them. Well I have news for you. They just went to perform in other countries like Canada and said screw a bunch of dumbass americans and made more money than you can count. So all you chick haters can kiss mine. I'll buy their records anytime. I also saw their concert here in st louis and everybody loved them. This country is full of dumbass hypocrites and bushites. The chicks are 3 of the best.
By john k on Oct 3rd 2008 at 10:44AM
With the exception of Alan Jackson and George Strait, there hasn't been any good "new country" coming out of Viet Nashville since the late '80's. I'll take Texas Country any day of the week. Reckless Kelly, Randy Rogers, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Jason Boland & The Stragglers, etc. Nashvegas is all about money, they wouldn't recognize a great country song if it walked up and kicked them in the nuts.
