Country music elicits a strong reaction from almost everyone. Either listeners squeal with excitement and reach for the volume dial to turn it up, or they moan with distaste and change the song immediately. Although everyone is entitled to their own opinion of music, the second group of music aficionados often fails to appreciate the finely crafted lyrics and twang of guitar in country songs. With notable exceptions (such as Kenny Chesney's 'She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy'), country musicians aren't afraid to delve deep into their emotions, be it lonesome, heartbroken or rowdy. Their songs resonate with deep passion and feeling. Check out our top searched list of country musicians on AOL Search for some of the best .
Topping the list are two of the newest up-and-coming country singers. Taylor Swift has been singing, writing songs, and learning guitar since she was young. Now, at 18, she tops pop and country music charts with singles like "Teardrops on My Guitar." Number two on our list got her start from singing live on the popular show American Idol. Now, Carrie Underwood has her song 'Just A Dream' climbing up the top country music list.
If you were lucky enough to have concert tickets to performers like Tim McGraw and Keith Urban, you already know how exciting and entertaining a country music concert can be. If you love a good show, check out tour dates coming to your local music hall.
For some good ole' acoustic guitar songs, search for some new country music from other musicians on our list, like Toby Keith and Brad Paisley. What's with these ugly dudes and their cowboy hats. The last horses these fashion phonies ever rode were on a carousel.

George Strait, is the best. No matter what he sings you will enjoy it. He has a great voice and not bad looking either.

Country music, as it always has, continues to change from generation to generation. Country music of Strait & Jackson etc, although referred to as traditional is still different from that of 30-40 years ago. I am a traditionalist myself, and like most don't believe most of what we hear today is country music, but rather Country Pop. Taylor Swift, who I think is great, is called a Pop Star im most circles....Duane Lee Proctor.com singer songwriter

I love Carrie Underwood... If you want more old time Country.... Try Jamey Johnson (In Color)
Surprised Trace Adkins didn't make this list

I agree some of the new stuff isn't country. The worst is Kid Rock he's a bad image for country music and should have a catagory of his own or quite the proffession.

Erniest Tubb,G.Jones,Charlie Pride,G.Autry,C.Gayle,
Webb Pierce,B.Bare,C.Rich,E.Arnold,Hank Snow Hank
Thompson, and many many more.I hate the glitter
all the hollywood productions that's not country.

9 out of 10 of those performers I like. Can't stand Sugarland. The lead singer's voice makes me want to scream. Too nasally and twangy.

I agree today's singers are borderline country.
I saw Miranda when she opened for George Strait a few year ago. My 25 year old son said,"Ma she is not country." Give me George Jones, Loretta Lynn,
George Strait. There are a lot of good country singers out there, this list does not name them.
Reba, Dollie, come on folks, be reasonable. Suddenly everyone wants to call themselves country figuring they are going to make money and fame, like Kid Rock!

I am a professional musician (a real player). I do not play country but like to listen to it. There are a lot of really musically sound "new" country players out there like Paisley and Urban. Acts like Taylor Swift are just the country version of the prepackaged pop acts like Ashley Simpson and other non real players. Just shallow non musical images without any real skills or true musical ability. Sugarland and Underwood are pretty strong and bring good musical skills to the table. Just my opinion. Everybody have a fine day jk

I LOVE Sugarland!!!

I own all the old stuff. Cash, Conway, Waylon and I love it. BIG Miranda Lambert fan. Don't judge her by the one perfprmance you happened to see on TV. Stage show was probably for the benifit of those who say country music is depressing. She is a true performer. Plays guitar, writes her own music and has many songs with that old mellow sound. Find a site and listen to the songs you don't see on CMT. I'm glad to see that she has people talking even though she wasn't on this Top 10 list. Much better than that Carry Idol who is the product of a great management team.

Taylor Swift is not even in the same catagory as Faith Hill, Martina McBride, and Carrie Underwood. Yet, she racks up the wins. She can't sing, tries to dance (if that is what her stomping around is), and her producers are trying to make her look 30something. Yet she racks up the publicity and wins. All I can say is that there must be a lot of tone-deaf country lovin teeny-boppers out there!

I was raised on classic country--George & Tammy,Merle,Loretta, all the good ones and while I enjoy some of the new artists I am thoroughly sick of the overkill--Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift are beautiful young women with lovely voices but they've been so "overplayed" till I'm sick of hearing them--it's to the point when they come on I turn the channel before I give them a chance to sing--give someone else a chance to sing for God's sake--and leave Miranda alone--she's a country girl with a little wild side, which is in most of us--she just has the balls to get out there and show it---
