Country music elicits a strong reaction from almost everyone. Either listeners squeal with excitement and reach for the volume dial to turn it up, or they moan with distaste and change the song immediately. Although everyone is entitled to their own opinion of music, the second group of music aficionados often fails to appreciate the finely crafted lyrics and twang of guitar in country songs. With notable exceptions (such as Kenny Chesney's 'She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy'), country musicians aren't afraid to delve deep into their emotions, be it lonesome, heartbroken or rowdy. Their songs resonate with deep passion and feeling. Check out our top searched list of country musicians on AOL Search for some of the best .
Topping the list are two of the newest up-and-coming country singers. Taylor Swift has been singing, writing songs, and learning guitar since she was young. Now, at 18, she tops pop and country music charts with singles like "Teardrops on My Guitar." Number two on our list got her start from singing live on the popular show American Idol. Now, Carrie Underwood has her song 'Just A Dream' climbing up the top country music list.
If you were lucky enough to have concert tickets to performers like Tim McGraw and Keith Urban, you already know how exciting and entertaining a country music concert can be. If you love a good show, check out tour dates coming to your local music hall.
For some good ole' acoustic guitar songs, search for some new country music from other musicians on our list, like Toby Keith and Brad Paisley. Several sites offer cheap music downloads so you don't have to break the bank while exploring out new artists. You can also listen to country music on the radio for free on AOL Radio.

Personally I think these new comers are horrible. They are not country. For instance, that Miranda person bangs on her guitar & screams the same sentence throughout 5 minutes.

Me myself, Well I'm old country.. Give me George Jones any day of the week. Now Good old George is friends with a Young man that is sort of new at least to me. Jason Byrd, He is a great young Country Singer, Well I guess you have heard enough feom me so thank you for your time...

Dwight Yoakam, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, Conway Twuilly are country singers. The people you listed are singers and screamers, not COUNTRY performers.

I agree with Auntie Ta.....I feel like I'm @ the Head Bangers Ball w/Miranda. She's NOT country!! She's certainly not the 1st to claim she was country & isn't. Anytime they scream the song to the point you can't understand it.....that's NOT country!

That Miranda person is Miranda Lambert and if you bothered listening to her music you would know that she doesn't just bang guitars and scream. Cheack out her debut cd and listen to "I can't be bothered" You justcan't get more old timey country than that. As to Merle and George and the others. I've enjoyed the hell out of em. But country music has evolved and these new singer's deserve the title of country artists. They are bringing more people into the fold. As these new people discover country they will discover the great artists of the past like, Merle, George Jones, Willy Nelson, Pasty Cline, Loretta Lynne and let us not forget the great Hank Williams. Enjoy your songs but don't bad mouth the younger singers of today. That's not very neighborly of you.

Every now and then, I click on the video "Murder on Music Row" by George Strait and Alan Jackson. The song tells it all; everything from the money to the instruments played on what now passes for 'country'.
The first song I learned to sing was "Great Speckled Bird"; I was four years old and lived at the head of a holler in Eastern Kentucky. My heart is still in the mountains .. and it longs for the sounds of Martin guitars, twin fiddles and close harmony. Loretta, Patsy, Tammy, George, Merle and Dwight sang country music. Taylor, Kelly and Keith need another venue for their talent .. not the stage of the Opry.

I am shocked that Sugarland only received number 3. What is that? They are the best country duo in the world. Jennifer Neatles has a strong voice that in my opinion, no one can top. The harmony is fabulous. I am a singer and I love to sing the song "Stay" Whenever I sing that song, I get lots of compliments wherever I go.

I love country music, old and new. once in a while i stroll thru ITunes and CDBaby.com to see the new artist and just recently I came across one by a fellow name J W Gray and its a tribute to the late football coach "Paul Bear Bryant". Its called the "Bama Walk Of Fame" I've never heard it on the radio but its really a very pretty song to be a tribute to such a great man. It would be nice to hear it on the radio once in a while. Thanks Jean

The only true measure of popularity is money--ticket sales for concerts, music downloads, and cd's.

WOW, there are some surprises on that list. It is just an opinion, but I think Trace Adkins should be on there somewhere!

I think it is terrible that an amazing band like Rascal Flatts wasn't even mentioned in this discussion. They are consistently in the top 10 tours for all genres of music. All of their albums have been certified multiplatinum. I love Sugarland and Keith Urban but if you haven't seen a RF concert, you are truly missing out.

Sugrland is good but jenn Nettles voice has a nassel tone at times very annoying but they are good,Taylors voice is just average

Country music is depressing and OLD country music is enough to drive anyone to extreme medication. What country does have going for it is some very nice eye candy. Watch CMT vidoes with the MUTE on!
