In the past, toothpastes were made of strange ingredients that one would never consider putting in their mouth, let alone think that they have teeth cleaning power. We've come a long way from chalk, pulverized brick and charcoal to a point where toothpastes actually do more than freshen up your mouth (although I don't know if those past concoctions even did that). Now, toothpastes boast that they'll make your gums healthier and your teeth whiter and stronger. There are lots of brands out there, but which one is the best? You can decide. Based on our top searched list of toothpaste brands, AOL Searchers think Crest toothpaste is the best.
Gleem toothpaste also ranked on our list, and although it has been around forever, it is still effective thanks to cavity fighting sodium fluoride. Also, unlike many commercial brands, it is sugar free.
Looking to get those pearly whites even whiter? You don't need to go to a dentist for teeth whitening. Instead, you could try out Supersmile toothpaste. It is recommended by cosmetic dentists as one of the best teeth whitening toothpastes.
You won't find number ten at CVS pharmacies. Marvis toothpaste is a top shelf brand that is sold only at select retailers, like C.O. Bigelow. It comes in several delicious varieties, such as jasmine mint and paradise fruit mint. If you love a flavor jolt to get your morning started, you should also try out Tom's of Maine toothpaste. It comes in creative flavors like orange-mango, fennel and strawberry. Best of all, their toothpastes are all-natural and include no artificial ingredients or chemicals.
What is your favorite toothpaste brand? Search for more toothpaste on AOL Search or shop for them on AOL Shopping.

Aquafresh Extreme Clean toothpaste is the best toothpaste I have ever used. It has a refreshing foaming action that's unlike anything that Crest or Colgate has on the market. We've tried them all.
And my wife was very pleased with the Aquafresh White Trays product. Their commercial says that it provides better whitening than Crest White Strips. And the Aquafresh tray is just like the form that dentists recommend....at a much cheaper price!

I've been using Tom's of Maine for a few years now. I like the fact that it's an all natural product, and it leaves my mouth feeling clean rather than "flavored. The subtle taste of thier fennel flavor is preferable to a harsh blast of mint in the morning, and my girlfriend likes the fact that it dosn't result in what she calls a "colgate kiss.

Apparently no one ever heard of CLOSYS sold at Walgreens and recommended by dentists?

As a Dental Hygienst, toothpastes cannot change the color of the tooth. A bleach on the tooth surface has to be left for an extended period of time to change the color from within the tooth.

Rembrandt, Tom's, and Crest (visiblywhite) are the best.

Vince Gum and Mouth Care is amazing. You have to order it or on occasion it may be found in one of the old fashion corner drug stores.

I use Melaluca it is a product with tea tree oil in it. It whitens and really helps keep the plaque off your teeth. My dentist said whatever I am doing keep it up because he never sees teeth as healthy as mine. It actually helps my gums also. If anyone wants to know where to get this let me know.

I find the consumer mag tested "Ultra-brite" toothpaste the best of the bunch. It is less abrasive than the other brands, and has a powerful mint blast. Top that with being the least expensive at under $1.99.

Arm & Hammer toothpaste rocks! I have always used this brand since I was a young. The consistency is a little bit harsh (i.e. Arm & Hammer baking soda) but thats why I use a soft brissel brush, expecially since I use an electirc tooth brush. The toothpaste gets into the hard to reach places in my mouth and keeps stains at bay (good to know since Im a smoker). I have always had people comment on my pearly whites and I would deffinitly say it is because of my secret beauty weapon...Arm & Hammer Toothpaste. Ok, I have one more add on about this awesome toothpaste, I know it sounds really weird, but if I get a horrible pimple and I need to zap it a.s.a.p. I'll put a tiny little bit of Arm & Hammer toothpaste on it overnight and the next day its GONE! Take that expensive acne products! Only use a very small amount on trouble spots because it will dry the skin really fast if you use it too much or use too much toothpaste. :)

My girlfriend in California told me that she makes her own toothpaste and I tried it, my dentist told me that my gums did a 100% turn around for the better here it goes: Tea Tree Oil (from Australia found in the Vitamin Shopps) Baking soda and Hydrogen Peroxide. I take 2 Tablespoons of the bakihg soda, 1 capful of the peroxide and with a dropper 2-3 drops of the Tea Tree Oil and I mix it and brush my teeth softly, its a little strong in the beginning I keep the bathroom door open because of the Tea Tree Oil it took 4 week of brushing my teeth with this mixture every other day only, the rest of the days I used colgate, I also rinse with the dark blue Listerine and take 1 Vitamin C pill 1000 mil every day, when I saw the dentist he said, the gums were amazingly better, he had never heard of Tea Tree Oil, look it up on the internet. It works for me. Sometimes I just use the baking soda and the peroxide, oh my teeth have gotten cleaner and brighter. So, why buy a toothpaste prepared by someone else when you can buy the ingredients and prepare it yourself.

A little known, but WONDERFUL teeth whitening tip --
one capful of hydrogen peroxide in your mouth - kind of hold it towards the front of your teeth -- it will foaming a bit - as it works to clean your teeth. Leave it in your mouth for a good solid minute or two, thens spit it out. I generally brush after, to get rid of the rest of any foam residue.
Do this for about a week - and WOW - what a difference. I don't smoke or drink wine much - and even I can tell a difference when I do it. When they seem to appear dingy again - I just swish the hydrogen peroxide for a couple of days - and they sparkle again.
You can even read on the label of the 2% hydrogen peroxide bottle that it is used for the mouth, so it's safe. They just recommend to not swallow it.
There is no taste to the hydrogen peroxide.
It does really work and it's so inexpensive to do. I figured I had nothing to lose!

Dentists go though school to learn certain types of treatments. My gums bleed often, but I don't have any cavities at the age or 33. At night I've been brushing with a Calcium and Zinc blend from:
