I was watching a funny movie this weekend where the father dyes his hair to hide the fact that he is going gray and losing his hair. He looked so ridiculous with his jet black hair that their dog kept barking at him because it didn't recognize him. I was laughing pretty hard when it occurred to me: do people really go this far to hide their thinning hair?It is estimated that over half of all men will experience male pattern baldness by the time they are 50. But it is not only men that experience hair loss, hair loss in women is very common as well, especially in women who are going through menopause. Genes play a big roll in determining baldness, but also some medications cause hair loss.
I started to wonder what measures people take to stop hair loss and regrow hair. Besides wearing a hat to cover up bald spots, I decided to look at what other AOL Search users were searching for to remedy their hair loss.
The top two of our list are two generic brands of medication used as both topical and oral treatments. Finasteride is commonly known as Propecia and Proscar, and Minoxidil is popularly known as Rogaine.
More natural treatments include Saw Palmetto, a natural extract, and Shen Min, a special type of hair vitamin. A lot of people turn to hair transplant surgery, which shows more immediate results because a hair follicle is directly implanted into your skin.
Not all treatments will work for everyone, and there are a lot of scams out there, so beware. Remember that hair in a spray can? What do you use to treat your baldness? Let us know. For more about balding search AOL Search or look for hair loss treatments on AOL Shopping.

I am a 44 year old male and have seen my hair slowly thin since my early 30's. I have been using rogain for about 5 years and I think it has helped me slow down the thinning but I am seriously thinking about getting a transplant. I was wondering if there is a list of recommended doctors in my area for this procedure.

I took Minoxidol and propecia and I lost my sex drive. I would rather be bald than lose my entire sex drive. I stopped taking the pills and my sex drive is slowly coming back. Now I just have to find women who like bald guys.

What is bad about being bald?

The most important mineral missing in our bodies in Silica. Its good for your hair, skin, bones and many other things. Silica taken everyday will not only help your hair grow, it will make it stronger and keep it from falling out. Its works wonders! Use pure liquid Silica. Five drops a day.

I am starting to lose my hair. the spot is fairly small now. However each time I wash my hair I lose little more of my hair. I have brought and tried it all. I purchased scalp-med products and discovered that I couldnt handled the Minoxidil. It caused my scalp to dry out and itch like crazy. I would scratch sores in my scalp it would itch so bad. Now I dont know what product I can buy that doesnt have Minoxidil in it. Is there any solutions for me

am using scalp-med now,, it's very expensive and dries out the hair. you might try mixing minoxidil and a non petroleum product together to keep the hair from being to dry and utilizing the benefits of the minoxidil. have seen great results,, and the hair does not look slick

Be careful w/biotin. I am a healthy 45 YO female. I was taking megadoses for a year or more. When I went for a physical & blood work, my liver showed extremely high levels of vitamin B. My doctor was so concerned she put me thru all kinds of tests and thought I should have a biopsy. I asked several doctors if its because of the HSN supplement I was taking. They said no, your liver should excrete whatever B it does not need. I stopped taking the biotin and my liver levels dropped to normal. I will not do the HSN again but I may try some of the other solutions offered here.

I think bald men are very sexy. Keep losing your hair because it would only turn me on.

This is for the healthy 40 YO female: I just looked up your HSN and it doesn't even contain Biotin. What ever was going on with your liver wasn't about Biotin it was about the contents of the HSN.

I used provillus, nioxin shampoo, rogaine and none of those worked for me. I also used kevis. All these products are very expensive. I'm tired of spending money for no results. If something really works for someone, please let me know.

I was losing my hair and I went to see a Trichologist at the miyohara international trichology clinic in southern ca.
The trichologist extracted a handful of hair samples because she said that no matter what any doctors say hair is more accurate than blood testing and microscopic analysis with the papilla attached will tell them exactly why the hair is coming out,and in my case I was sweating to much and it was eating away my hair and the trichologist showed me several different pictures of my hair under the microscope and it really looked nasty looking but they saved my hair and my new pictures showed over half of the acid on my hair is dissolved and the outside of my hair is thickening up and not shedding hardly at all.
Maybe if anybody has tried a lot of different things like me and nothing worked give them a call what do you have to lose.
