The world is a bit less funny after Bernie Mac died on Saturday, a little more than a week after seeking medical treatment for pneumonia. The actor had suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease, but this was not known to be related to the pneumonia that caused his death. In another shocking death this weekend, award-winning soul legend Isaac Hayes was found unresponsive near a treadmill in his home. Other than his singing and songwriting, Hayes was also well known for his voice as the character "Chef" on Comedy Central's show 'South Park.' Coincidentally, Mac and Hayes recently finished filming a movie together, 'Soul Men,' which is expected to be released in November. The 2008 Olympics kicked off in Beijing on Friday with a lavish opening ceremony that spurred a Chinese winning streak. The team is currently in first place with 14 medals, nine of which are gold. The U.S. is in second with only three gold medals, two of which were won by swimming star Michael Phelps. Phelps won one with the U.S. team in the Men's 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay and another one solo in the Men's 400m Medley, where he also set a new world record.
Speaking of setting records, Kyle Busch set a new record at the Watkins Glen International where he became the first driver in NASCAR's history to win three road course races in one season. In other sports news, reigning welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre beat Jon Fitch at UFC 87 in a unanimous decision.
Popular affordable home decor company, IKEA, may sell more than just IKEA furniture. The IKEA Greentech group plans to start investing in clean technology, beginning by selling solar panels. "Some assembly required."
Former democratic party presidential candidate John Edwards admitted that he had an extramarital affair with a filmmaker hired to follow his campaign efforts. Edwards' wife, Elizabeth, who suffers from incurable breast cancer, announced she will support him through this.

Well...it took the Olympics to knock Jolie and her brood off the headlines! Thank Goodness!!! I am sooo sick of her and everything about Her! Please give us a few more weeks before we are "forced fed" by the media again! She is OLD news!

Thank goodness, with all the sadness and horror in our lives it's great that we have the olympics going on right now, especially in such a place as China. Maybe this will wake up the world and tell us that we should be kind to all mankind.

I have to say that I am so embarrased by John Edwards. He has embarrased NC. I am a two time cancer survivor and I feel so for his wife. I know that she is supposed to be trying to stand by him but I pray for her. Forgiveness is in the heart and I hope if she continues to stand by him she can find it in her heart to forgive. He can justify a lot of things but running around on a sick woman is not one of them. I commented to friends that I felt he didn't need to be running for President when she found out her cancer was back. He needed to spend time with Elizabeth and his family.I wish them well but I hope he can get down to reality and see the damage he has done then get busy repairing it.

I have gone from being sad to being angry with John Edwards. His affairs are his own business now, but I think he has denied this country its first woman President. I believe Edwards' endorsement of Senator Obama gave him the edge he needed to win the nomination. I now support Obama and think he will do well as President, and I certainly cannot support McCain, but I'm sad that we've been denied perhaps the finest President this country could have had to fix the mess it's in.

Mrs. Edwards knew about John's affair in 2006 but nothing was said then. Seems as tho she condoned it because of his bid as a presidential candidate. She's just as bad as he is as far as being honest and telling the truth. She was hiding it; if he'd been elected president, then all of us would be in the dark about the whole thing. They both made seriously bad choices for the wrong reason.

Edwards just took votes that should have gone to Hillary. He selfishly ran, knowing eventually the affair would come out. We can all thank God Edwards did not win the primary, but the real injustice was done to Hillary. Edwards just confused matters and helped to steal the nomination from Hillary. There were never really three choices. It was just Hillary or the FRAUD, Obama.

Where is all the outraqe from AOL, the NY Times, Washington Post, etc. etc. Nothing but silence from all the big news people. If John McCain had hugged a old woman at a nursing home there would be stories everywhere about him maybe trying to cop a feel...it was reported by undisclosed sources....blah blah

Are people so stupid that they are concerned with such nonsense when there is a full fledged war going on in Georgia. How are people not making mad rushes to their computer to find the latest on this invasion which is comprable to Hitlers march on Poland!

Are people truly so stupid as to concern themselves with such nonsense. There is a full fledged war going on in Georgia. This is comprable to Hitlers march on Poland! People should be making mad rushes to the computer to search whats going on in Eastern Europe.

Steven I agree, there is a bad war going on in Georgia and the media looks the other way, as well as the UN...what a joke they are... over 2,000 killed by the Russians. Russia should back off and let Georgia handle its own affairs. Russia doesn't need to carve and murder on the way to the capital because of unrest in Georia, BACK OFF RUSSIA.

The undemocratic Hillary-Or-Nothing crowd just doesn't give up shilling, do they?? Now they are blaming John Edwards for the fact that more millions of Democrats across the country preferred Hillary's primary opponent, Barack Obama, than Hillary. I love the fact that these Hillary Shills can not read a calendar either. Waaaaaa. Because John Edwards was my first choice for Democrat nominee, I know when he halted his campaign bid: EDWARDS QUIT WELL BEFORE THE SUPERTUESDAY BIG PRIMARIES AND CAUCUSES, PEOPLE. That's when Hillary Clinton still thought she was a shoo-in for the nomination ... that she was "entitled" to be crowned Dem candidate. With Edwards OUT of the race, Hillary still bombed in the SuperTuesday primaries. The rest is history -- Hillary and Bill got nasty, smack mouth and hostile after that. Get your timelines straight, oh shills.

this is crazy, but about a week ago a re-run of the Bernie Mac show aired. Sadly ironic at the end of the show when he was talkin to the people Isaac hayes was a special guest. they were just joking and laughing together enjoying each others company. They both passed away in the last few days.

I am a colon cancer survivor and a HUGE Elizabeth Edwards fan. I actually was warming to John Edwards due to the support of his strong brilliant wife. I always thought he seemed a little slimey though...now I know my initila feelings were right.
As a colon cancer survivor and reading of so much death of relatively young people, I just want to say that I am a huge fan of curbing way back on eating meat, watching your cholestrol, and eating flax loaded with Omega 3's and 6's. I recently discovered a golden roasted flax product that has extra antioxidants, is tasty and low calorie. http://www.fitflax.com I also am a HUGE fan of a glass of ren wine every night!

Bernie was very funny, wish the media would have mentioned that he was seriously ill.
So many would have prayed for him & he would have
felt our support.

Enough on Edwards affair, did everyone forget about Bill Clinton pointing his finger at the American public saying I did not have relations with Monica and he was President, but he is allowed to talk at the conventions and be seemed everywhere else. Hilliary should have kick him out along time ago. That is why she didnt get in office.

I have to say how stupid does the media really think the people of this country are. I mean did anyone ever talk a simple sex ed class. Here is the timeline. Sometime in 2006 before Elizabeth Edwards found out her breast cancer had returned, John Edwards confessed to an affair with another woman. Fast forward to January 27, 2008 the daughter of the other woman is born. John Edwards must have some super sperm that can stay in a woman's body for a extreme length of time because to make him the father of this child means that they would have still been "seeing" each other well into April, 2007. I mean why tell your wife about an affair and then continue the affair. The press just will not be satisfied until Elizabeth dumps him when she resolved this almost two years ago. I don't feel sorry for her at all. I admire her because she is a much stronger person than I would have ever been. My husband's bags would have been packed before the first tear would have hit the ground.

As the Olympics continue, so continues the Chinese government in forcing women to terminate their pregnancies up until the day the child is born. Forced abortions in China every single day; women dragged out of their homes and needles stuck in their wombs to kill viable babies regularly. Remember that every time a Chinese woman is shown -- remember that they are not allowed to have babies. Remember that their babies are being killed forcefully. Then think about how happy it is to watch the Olympics.
