Unless you're a super hero, chances are you've needed to take pain medication before. And when you were looking for pain relief, you really needed something that would work fast to dull your pain. With migraines, aches, sprains and broken bones, the list of ways your body can hurt is endless. So when I got a headache yesterday, I decided to look and see what other AOL users rely on for pain relief. The widely known drug Vicodin came in at the top of our search list, probably because it can be used as a mild-to-severe pain reliever, depending on the potency. It is commonly prescribed for anything from pain after dental work to knee pain relief. Pain killers, such as Celebrex, are also a wonderful relief for those suffering from arthritis pain.
If you prefer a topical relief for your pain, a surprising medical treatment that I had never heard of appeared on our list. BIOFREEZE comes as a spray, gel or roll-on medicine and contains a special herbal extract from a South American holly shrub.
Some of these drugs are so strong that you need a prescription for them. Others you can find at an online pharmacy or your local pharmacy, like CVS. It all depends on how fast you need relief!

I am always bothered when people use pain relievers for migraines. If you keep a food chart, you can determine migraine's causes, USUALLY from foods. I found out by keeping a "food chart" (suggested by a TV station)that ONIONS GIVE ME MIGRAINE HEADACHES!
Once I found out, I have never had a migraine since, unless I accidentally eat an onion(s) in a restaurant. Several people have told me the same.
I sat next to someone at a restaurant who had a plate full of scallions. I asked her how she kept from having migraines; she reached in her purse and pulled out a box of migraine pills!!!
By keeping a food chart, I noticed migraines had nothing to do with "nerves" because I could have a PERFECT day, everything fine, then have a MIGRAINE. Now, I have NEVER had migraines for many, many years!

To anyone out there, beware of Celebrex. I used it for a short period of time and ended up with congestive heart failure. It was awful. I believe many doctors have stopped prescribing this.

Advil is good for some pain but not always. You can take 4 advail which is equal to 800 mg of 1 prescription tablet of Ibuprofin which is the same as Advil. I prefer Vocodin and also take Lodine

Okay promoting narcotic drugs isn't a good idea. vicodin is an addictive medication and you're giving people the wrong idea... Encouraging people to goto the doctor for a narcotic for a headache is a horrible idea. There are plenty of ways to deal with a migraine. Benedryl being one of the most effective. Try that instead of rushing to the doctor.

In defense of Celebrex, have taken it for many years for arthritis pain. Takes care of problem totally. When stopped taking for two weeks due to surgery could barely get around. I know it works!

I can't believe you are pushing the use of vicodin, oxycontin and methadone! These are abused regularly, especially by teenagers and college students. The withdrawal from methadone is particularly bad, worse than heroin. I have worked in rehab for 2+ years and deal with this on a daily basis. Shame on you.

Being a Pharmacist I see so many people get addicted to pain medication. The most common one is Vicodin/Hydrocodone.People get that after an injury and they are still bugging the Doctor and me a year later for it. I had one gentleman arrested after trying to pass an altered presciption to me!

I prefer Norco over Vicodin, and Xanax to relax, instead of a drink. Celebrex sent my mother to ER, with a bad reaction. Onions? Love them, and have never had a headache. One size doesn't fit all.

No one seems to know what pain really is. As in having had 5 kidney stones over the years - the clear winner is Diladid goes also by Hydro Morphine. The 1st time I got it - I asked the Dr. in ER if he had stop pain 101 in med school. If not I would like another Dr. The pain had been so bad I was throwing up on the front porch waiting for a ride to ER. 2 minutes after I though down the gaunlet the nurse put the juice in the IV and I could feel an instaneous coolness travel up my neck. 4 hours later I woke up and thanked the Dr. profusely.

Norco is best, and much better then Vicodin. Xanax is safer in moderation, rather then a drink to relax.

All I ever take is a couple aspirin. . .and lots of sleep. Cheap and does the trick.

Celebrex for me is a life saver. My doctor tried 10 different prescriptions before that never worked. The second day on celebrex, I had relief and now after 2 years taking one small dossage per day, I am pain free. Give me celebrex or give me death.

THIS IS FOR THE PERSON WHO THINKS MIGRAINES ARE FROM FOOD, YES, SOME PEOPLE DO GET THEM THAT WAY, BUT OTHERS ARE JUST PRONED TO THEM, I GOT MY FIRST ONE AT 12, AND I STILL GET THEM. THERE ARE SOME DAYS I WILL GET 3 OR 4 A DAY. STRESS HAS A LOT TO DO WITH MINE, FOOD DOES NOT.I DID THE FOOD DIARY.IT ALSO RUNS IN YOUR FAMILY, MY SON ALSO GETS THEM.
THE ONLY THING BENEDRYL DOES, IS HELPS YOU SLEEP.
FOR ALL THE PEOPLE OUT THERE USING ADVIL,ALEVE ECT. BE CAREFUL. MY MOTHER WAS USING ADVIL FOR OVER 6 MONTHS, THE RIGHT DOSE,AND NOW SHE HAS KIDNEY DAMAGE.SO SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO TAKE A PERSCRIPTION MEDICATION.I GO TO A PAIN MANAGEMENT DOCTOR. HE HAS HELPED ME SO MUCH.

I am somewhat concerned that some of the comments are recommending increased dosages of anti-inflammatories. There can be serious reactions from taking increased dosages some of which include gastric bleeding as well as rectal bleeding. While the recommendations have been given with good intentions, it would be best to consult your family physician before taking any increased dosages of OTC anti-inflammatory medications.
Another comment that I would like to make is that anyone can get a migraine headache for any number of reasons and the so called "trigger" is different for each and every migraine sufferer.

Hey Mr. Pharmacist, wow you really got some one arrested you are really a great F--king man.
Maybe their life will now really be ruined. Internet pharmicys, Drs. that over write scripts, yes you guys make the monster. Now I get to spend money on suboxon forever. They should arrest assholes like you instead. So when someone is waiting out side for you just rember how many people you f--ked with.

This article is not pushing pain killers. Some people will abuse drugs, prescription or non-prescription no matter what you do. Did you ever think you wuld need ID to purchase cold medication? How about ID to purchase white out and/or dry erase markers? Thank you everyone for the valuable information so that when I do need pain medication, I have your experiences to learn from.
