A few months ago I decided to cancel my gym membership. Since I barely went to the gym, I figured I could take the $70 a month that I was spending and invest it in home fitness equipment instead. Then I would have access to a 24-hour fitness center right in my own basement. At first I found it a little overwhelming to complete my exercise routine without the help of the personal trainers I used to consult with at the gym. However, as I collected more of my own home fitness equipment I realized it is as easy to work out at home as it is to use the fitness equipment available at the gym.
Working out at home allows me to fit in exercise whenever it's convenient. I can pedal on my stationary bike while reading a book or climb on the stepper while watching TV. If my workout starts feeling a bit stale, I like to spice it up with fitness training DVDs, like pilates. Now I don't have any excuses for missing a daily workout and I am losing weight.
Do you know of any good fitness equipment that did not show up on the list? If so, please tell us about it. Check out more from AOL Shopping or search for fitness equipment on AOL Search.

People looking for a fitness routine that doesn't take a lot of time, but really does the job should look into the Kettlebell. It looks like a steel ball with a handle. The Kettlebell works the core, but also is a cardio and strength training workout.
I train in boxing, wrestling and martial arts, so I consider myself to be in great shape, but the Kettlebell got my heart racing.

I've lifted weights and I've been a runner. About 7 months ago I ordered P90X by Beach Body. P90X has changed my life. I went from a 40 waist to a 32" rock hard 6 pack. I have stamina off the charts and I'm strong as an ox. P90X will kick your butt at first, but stick with it, results are seen and felt almost daily. I don't work for them but if you want to get in great shape give it a try, it works.

You can get a non-surgical but lift but using a fourteen inch box doing leg presses. This routine is used in ''The Firm" video's. its absolutely fantastic and gives you thigh's of a race horse. Rent one of these tapes, number five is great, and you will see what I mean. They are very hard but they work great

My wife loves her smartsoles too. I just saw the coupon code of SMART15 and used it to buy my daughter a pair. I wish they made them for men! My fitness love is workout bands. I bought them at sears and my arms looks much better than they did a year ago

God Bless my NordicTrack elliptical machine! I lost 50 lbs last year, and that thing literally shaved off my back rolls, love handles, and jiggly butt. I cuss that poor machine out because it's a grueling workout, but it's the best workout I can get!

I agree that it's better to work out outside with fresh air. Also working out at home provides privacy while a gym does not.
Working out without an exercise equipment can be effective too. Such as taking a walk, jumping jacks, criss-crossing the hands to touch the toes, etc. I learned from a friend years ago that bending the knees a little while raising the feet and back down over and over. It's good for the lower legs to tone up.

Also moving around all day also helps. Such as climbing the stairs instead of using an elevator. Or walking to a store nearby instead of driving. Which also helps avoid paying for more gas. Also more healthy and a good advantage this way.

I have a free gym membership through Secure Horizons, however, if I had to give it up I would use a large exercise ball, rubber stretch ropes with handles and adjustable dumbells to do the Max Contraction Training protocol at home. The exercise ball is great for bouncing, bouncing strengthens the immune system by energising the lympth system to clean out the entire body thus preventing cancer among many other things. By itself, it also strengthens the muscles to an amazing degree, especially when combined with Astaxanthin and Suma.

I have been using the Charles Atlas coarse of Dynamic Tension no equipment at all. It really works for me. I do not recommend it for women.

This is fantastic! I am a trainer and fitnss instructor and support anything you can do in your home to get in a workout. Our lives are crazy and packed full of responsibilities - and the first thing we give up is our workout.
One other suggestion I wanted to make was an online tool I created at www.youcanmakeitfit.com. With the use of our 50 online fitness videos, podcasts and printable workouts you can fit in a workout whenever, wherever! We offer a wide variety of platforms for various fitness levels - but most importantly, the workouts can be done in 30 minutes or less with very little or no equipement. Enjoy!

The elliptical trainer works for me. Elliptical trainers provide a low impact activity that elevates your heart rate even in a light or moderate workout. Not only are they easy to use and less stressful on the joints when compared to jogging on a hard surface, the display console gives you a wealth of information about your workout. Ellipticals give you an estimate on the number of calories burned, METs, the time and distance of your workout, and your Target Heart Rate.

Hi Heidi! I work out on exercise equipment at home, have for about 20 years. I also used to be a member of a gym, but that got really expensive.

I converted back to the home gym and made the committment. I found that simple wieghts and the ball works well with my treadmill and bike. I like to mix it up a bit with hip-hop, bellydancing dvd's, and for the legs, I recently purchased a thigh trainer for only 10.00 at Burlington Coat Factory and, it really works great, and I use it just about every where from the house to the car. If my husban is driving I just bring out and get busy and im really starting to see space between my thighs and the jeans fit great. And here's a laugh when i first started I just happened to be under the covers reading a book, at first my husban was freak-out but, once he realized what I was doing he was a little turn on, "Oh yeah" best 10.00 I ever spent.
