A few months ago I decided to cancel my gym membership. Since I barely went to the gym, I figured I could take the $70 a month that I was spending and invest it in home fitness equipment instead. Then I would have access to a 24-hour fitness center right in my own basement. At first I found it a little overwhelming to complete my exercise routine without the help of the personal trainers I used to consult with at the gym. However, as I collected more of my own home fitness equipment I realized it is as easy to work out at home as it is to use the fitness equipment available at the gym.
Working out at home allows me to fit in exercise whenever it's convenient. I can pedal on my stationary bike while reading a book or climb on the stepper while watching TV. If my workout starts feeling a bit stale, I like to spice it up with fitness training DVDs, like pilates. Now I don't have any excuses for missing a daily workout and I am losing weight.
Do you know of any good fitness equipment that did not show up on the list? If so, please tell us about it. Check out more from AOL Shopping or search for fitness equipment on AOL Search.

I love Wii-Fit. The balance board is great and I use it to practive
yoga and am learning golf. It is great exercise and I will not mind
have my kids playing with this. It is better to go outside and get a
work out but on a rainy day I would prefer my kids to play with this
than Grand Theft Auto.
As a mother of 3 I try t get a work out in whenever I can. Going to
the gym every day is not an option for me...and I agree way to
expensive. So much more convenient to work out at home
I use a precor rower for arms (http://www.precor.com) and LOVE, LOVE
my smartsole insoles. You just slip those insoles in your flat shoes
and it tonse muscles and increases cirulation. You burn more
calories while doing the same things...cool beans!

I also found a coupon code for the smartsoles. It is SMART15 and it
give you a 15% discount

What works for me is a great core workout using the exercise balls. I do much less abdominal exercises and more core and my stomach is as flat as ever.
I eat health and take Zylene which is a natural and organic fat burner. Check it out at the site above or see Ryans amazing blog (80 pounds lost)

With gas prices what they are, dropping expensive gyms is a great idea... their only real advantage is being able to socialize.
But, why stop there, if you want to save even more money and get a fantastic workout then the only thing you need to buy is a nice pair of running shoes.
A short run, couple of sets of crunches, and push-ups will have you feeling and looking better than ever before in your life.
I did just that, at 50 I stopped going to a gym, and started running. At first, running around the block made me feel like I was going to cough up a lung... today, at age 55 I am preparing for my 5th marathon. And trust me, this is one of those, If I can do it, you can do it... so Just Do It!

I have to agree Jason that there's nothing like Zylene to lose eight with and to take before a great workout. http://worldsgreatestsupplement.com/ is where I order mine and have never been in better shape in my life and I'm almost 50.

A Rebounder or "mini-trampoline" should be on this list of home equipment. Needak makes good quality rebounders that fold.

Hey Jamie. I got smartsoles about a year ago and LOVE them. They are super comfortable and as I walk for exercise, they give me a little more zip in may walk and I walk longer. My legs have definitely toned up. Now if I can just elliminate my evening dish of ice cream habit I would be ahead!

Two good at home cardio exercisers that also build and firm your legs and hips are:
1. the Urban Rebounder,
www.urbanrebounder.com ,
the mini-tramploine which is much less expensive, under $200, than most of the listed at home cardio exercisers; gets excellent results due to the jumping motion, and gets good ratings from users.
2. Another is the Nordic Track cross country skiing simulation exerciser.
I've found I need ChoPat knee straps to protect my knees and have had to cut way back on how much I use it each week now that I'm over 60 to protect my hip joints; but it produces better cardiovascular fitness faster than most other exercisers.
With many of these exercisers, your thigh muscles give out before you get to the upper level of your heart's workout tolerance. This is NOT a problem with the Nordic Track.

Yes, with gas prices so high, I had to make my own equipment. It was easy & I made it from a rock solid
oak beer pallet. All I had to buy was 2- 4 by 4s and two
lengths of 1 by 6 pine. And it works better than the gym. Why ? People at the gym are not rocket scientists, I am. Anyone could build it, all you need is the plans. It does abs, quads, biceps-triceps, pectorals, everything.
