As a child, I remember watching 'All My Children' with my mom. I actually loved the soap opera so much that when I was in college, I would rush home from class just to catch it. What is it about all the crazy drama that keeps us glued to our television sets? Soap operas have been around for well over 30 years. One of my girlfriends is addicted to 'As the World Turns'. She started watching the soap as a little girl, and thanks to DVRs she still watches it every day.
Since I've been out of the soap opera drama for a number of years, I decided to find out what the top searched soap operas were on AOL Search.
To my surprise not much has changed. The soap operas that were popular when I was a child are still popular today. As you can see, 'Days of Our Lives', 'General Hospital' and 'All My Children' made it into the top three. 'Fuego En La Sangre' (Fire in the Blood) is actually a Latino soap opera that has become popular over the past few months.
What is your favorite soap opera? Find out more about your favorite show by searching for it on AOL Television.

I have been watching the soaps since I was a child. My mother watched Search for Tomorrow and The Guiding Light. (1960's)
My favorite is Y & R now. Gloria has made the story line so interesting!! She is really made for the part that she plays. B & B is good too. Logan makes that show what it is today, she will always be beautiful.

My favorite soaps are "YOUNG&RESTLESS and "DAYS OF OUT LIVES". Watched both of them for years. "BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL" is a good one, too.

I used to listen to the Guiding Light on the radio!!
I have stopped watching because the writers have killed off too many favorite characters. They have all these beautiful, young people having sex with everyone on the show to the point where they're not even sure whose kid they're carrying. The stories have little real substance or reality. It's sad & boring.

I WATCH Y&R BUT IT'S GONE DOWNHILL WITH DOPEY STORIES AND NASTY PEOPLE. NOT 1 PERSON HAS A "JOB" LOLLLLLLLL

I'M A LONG FAN OF Y&R. THE NEW WRITERS ARE TERRIBLE.
I AGREE WITH THE PERSON WHO SAID, ABOUT THE SAME THING I FEEL. THEY NEED TO FIRE ALL OF THEIR WRITERS AND START FRESH. SOMEONE BACK FROM THE
DEAD, COME ON!!

I don't think how often a show is searched on AOL necessary says anything about it's popularity, because B&B and Y&R were low on the list and yet have consistently had higher ratings than ATWT and GL (which I still think are better shows.)
As to the skeptics regarding GL's new format, I respectfully disagree. I think this new format has taken the acting to a new level. While I didn't like it at first, they've worked out the kinks and now the writing, performances and even look are better than ever!

I have watched AMC, OLTL and GH ever since I was a small child...i'm 28 now. My mom got me hooked. I watched B&B and Y&R for a while too, and I've seen a few PASSIONS, but if I want to watch a storyline about witches, I'll watch reruns of CHARMED!!!!

I listened to the Guiding Light on the radio as a kid!!! The new soups are pretty sad. They've killed off favorite characters, have all these young, beautifuls on having sex left & right--stories have no substance. No wonder they are losing viewers like me.

I will be 60 years old this year. I remember watching Search for Tomorrow and Guiding Light when they were each on for 15 minutes. Soaps have been around for more than 50 years not 30 years!! I still tape Days of our Lives and As the World Turns. It is my relaxation time watching soaps when I get home from work.

I have watched DAYS since just about day one when i was in high school. I am 61 now and never miss a show. I tape it everyday just in case. I have rarely ever missed an episode. I have stayed true even when it wasnt very exciting anymore. But now, wow, I cant wait to see it everyday. I love all the characters good and bad thats what makes the show so great, the great mix of people. I plan on watching till the end of it or me.

I remember Dark Shadows. The acting was SO BAD!!!But it was different & I ran home from the beach to watch.

DAY's is the only soap I've watched for years. I LOVE the show & the actors, so many Great ones! I do get frustrated at losing Shawn, Bell, Billy and some of the others that have gone. Love Kayla, Stephanie, Chelsea and very happy to have Nicole back she is GREAT & when she & Sami get together some of the best acting ever. Some things are to far out & Bo having serious surgery then running off to find Hope is a joke. Get rid of Rolf he is a waste of $$ other actors could have been paid instead of letting them go.

I have watched Days since the first day it premiered.
The families have seemed like my own and I feel like I know all the characters. I work full time but record all of the shows and watch when I retire for the night. If Days is taken off the TV I will feel like I have lost my family and friends. Please do whatever you can to keep it on the air. We are already being smothered by the morning talk shows and news broadcasts.

My husband says that admitting you have a problem is half the battle. "Hi my name is cheek237 and I am an addict" a soap addict that is. I watch Y&R, All My Children, One Life, GH & Days. I watch them all on SoapNet. The start at 7:00pm and play straight through. I love it because I don't have to record or TiVo anything. And heaven forbidden I miss them at night for some reason then I go to the SoapNet web site and read the recaps. I am pitiful I know but I can't help myself. I just love them all so much.
