As a child, I remember watching 'All My Children' with my mom. I actually loved the soap opera so much that when I was in college, I would rush home from class just to catch it. What is it about all the crazy drama that keeps us glued to our television sets? Soap operas have been around for well over 30 years. One of my girlfriends is addicted to 'As the World Turns'. She started watching the soap as a little girl, and thanks to DVRs she still watches it every day.
Since I've been out of the soap opera drama for a number of years, I decided to find out what the top searched soap operas were on AOL Search.
To my surprise not much has changed. The soap operas that were popular when I was a child are still popular today. As you can see, 'Days of Our Lives', 'General Hospital' and 'All My Children' made it into the top three. 'Fuego En La Sangre' (Fire in the Blood) is actually a Latino soap opera that has become popular over the past few months.
What is your favorite soap opera? Find out more about your favorite show by searching for it on AOL Television.

Bring back Passions to daytime tv. Those who do not have Direct tv have missed too much. I use to look forward to watching it. Boo to whoever took it off.

I have been and will continue to be a faithful fan and watcher of days of our lives.

I didn't realize that Passions was still on the air! Can I watch it on-line?It was quirky, but I liked it. I didn't particularly think that the acting/script was dynamic. I think the writers assumed that people didn't watch daily because the actors always seemed to repeat and recap storylines.

I grew up watching my "mother's" soaps which were All my Children, and Days . I watched ever Day after school I started watching mainly Days,I am so hooked on Days. Back in the 60's It's The best soap, ever. my favorite since the beginning. I am a faithful fan and remain true to Days. This is the only soap that I watch now, it's the only one worth watching. GO DAYS

Days of our Lives is the only one I watch anymore. I really started to get into Passions when it moved to Direct Tv. I think it really sucks that I can't get it on Dish anymore!

soaps are like peeking in people's windows and seeing and hearing things you shouldn't... maybe that's the attraction for gossiping women??
anyway, they're a little bit of an insult to our intelligence with the "coming back from the dead" as someone here mentioned... such a waste of time. Get off the couch, get some air and exercise..

I agree about the new GL format - I know it was well-intentioned - but is definitely NOT an improvement (and I've been a fan since 1974!) As for "Day's" - I was kind of addicted to it for a few years some 20 years ago. But like B&B you can tune out for 20 years and feel like you haven't missed anything... The P&G soaps (GL and ATWT, for the most part) have truly outstanding writers and a wonderfully talented team-mate kind of cast that all seem to bring the best out in each other - rather than vying to be the superstar (at everyone's including the viewer's expense...)

DAYS OF OUR LIVES are awesome! I record it every day while at work and have to keep up on who's dead and who isn't. But, that's ok. It's part of the drama of the show. I started watching it over 30 years ago with my mom and she watched it everyday until she passed away last year. I can sit and watch and remember the good times we had just watching our soap together. It's the little things in life you better not take for granted!

Days is the only soap I watch. I have watched it since it began and I use to run home from school to watch it with my grandmother .I don't know why it hasn't been winning in the awards they have great plot lines and couples but I do wish they'd let John get him memory back. I miss the old John. I find myself hollowing at the TV telling him where the disc is that has his memory on it.

There's only one...Kristain Alfonso, I'd kiss her ass. K A is the most beautiful woman in the world.

BB & OLTL! Been watching them for 30+ years. Back in the "Dark Shadows" days. Remember that one? :-)

Oh yes Soaps are over 30 years old. I've been watching since the late 50's to early 60's. Started with my Gramma, and one was called Love Of Life, then two 15 minute shows came on after that. I don't remember the soaps names, only that one of them went to 30 minutes a few years later. We watched Days and As the World Turns. Which AWT is not on in my area anymore and I Hate it. I loved Days when Stephano and Tony were there. And Marlana's twin sister came in the picture. Kept me on the edge of my seat. those were the days!

I didn't realize that Passions was leaving in August. We (my husband and I) always looked forward to see what was going on in Harmony until it was moved to Direct TV. It was just so very entertaining and NEVER boring.

Y&R is my fav soap since my Mother forced me to watch it as a kid, we watched as we ate dinner in the afternoons b/c Dad worked 2nd shift.
I have watched on and off till my late 20's but now I watch steadily.............I agree with the post that stated the show is just getting ridiculous.......people dying and coming back as new characters, respectable father having an affair with his daughters friend......ghosts making appearances for 6 month span.........characters just drop off the show with no reason..................Bobby & Britany.............money stolen, burned, kept, and in 6 more months a mysterious person will show up looking for something that was deemed destroyed........Far reaching plots here, get out of fantasy writing and get back to reality or the best soap is gonna crash...............!
