I love the spring season. Flowers blooming, tree leaves growing and the smell of fresh cut grass fills the air. That all sounds great for people that don't have allergies. However, if you do suffer from allergies, we have some remedies for you.I thought it would be helpful to find out what our top searched allergy remedies were on AOL Search. Common OTC and prescription allergy medicines such as Zyrtec, Claritin and Sudafed can help treat most of your allergy symptoms. If these medications don't help your symptoms or medications are not your type, there are some other alternatives.
Natural allergy treatments such as the neti pot, quercetin and stinging nettle can be as effective as prescription allergy pills without the medication. Neti pot, also know as the nose bidet, flushes out all the debris clogging your sinuses and helps alleviate pain. Quercetin is a natural plant-derived compound (called a bioflavonoid) that helps suppress histamine production in your body. Stinging nettle is a weed, sold in capsules, that inhibits the body's ability to produce histamine.

Think about the people who cannot afford insurance, who cannot get meds without having to think about eating or having their meds.

1-to 5. About the sinus balloons. This probably works great! Back in the early 90's I had to have 2 sinuses surgically reopened and although it truly was not 'that' bad, this sounds like a true improvement to that procedure.
2-As far as the sinus kettle thingy goes, there is a product called NeilMed Sinus rinse that's been available for years over the counter and works wonders for those with chronic sinus ailments and it gently shoots the water/solutions thru the sinuses versus just pouring it through....seems more thorough then this kettle.

I take Aleve, it doesn`t make me drowsy, More than anything eating too much aggrivates my allergies. Allergy shots were a joke, best solution is get a healthy lifestyle. Get your weight down and avoid foods that cause problems.

I've suffered from allergies all my life, have used every prescription and OTC medication (which have worked mildly), and for years received customized allergy shots weekly... but nothing works like a neti pot. I used to get every cold and flu that was within 10 feet of me, but since I started using the neti pot, I didn't even catch the severe cold my husband had for three weeks. It really works and I feel GREAT.

CFB EXPERT yikes. Here is a sugestion to take seriously. Underlying problems can really aggrivate allergies and cause them. Try giving him a little bit of garlic every day for a month or so, this will eliminate mold allergies and candida, yes men can have that problem too and it is more prevalent that many think. It is a serious problem and cause almost any kind of illness if prolonged and not treated.

I've had incapacitating sinus infections for a few years now and have a few recommendations. Better than the Netti Pot or the NeilMed Sinus Rinse are two options: the Nasaline irrigator and the Grossan irrigator. Nasaline is like a huge plastic syringe. I use it to wash my sinuses with warm salt water and also to use other washes. It's about $10. The Grossan irrigator is similar to a water pick with a tip for your nose. It's expensive, but also effective.
Another wash I recommend is Alkalol. It's OTC and contains eucalyptus, which is pretty minty and really cleans things out. Cut the Alkalol with a little salt water b/c it's very strong. Lastly, Amphotericin is a great prescription antibiotic wash. Because you use it topically, it is safe to use for prolonged periods of time whereas oral antibiotics are not.
My doctor has a very informative website: check out www.sinuses.com.

I have seen the Netti pots spelled as "Neti pot" on some varieties of pots, so I'm not sure why this spelling is mutating. As for the use of the Netti pot, I come from a family of sinus-related problem sufferers and I can attest that where I have always had 2-3 sinus infections a year, I have not had a single one in the past 3 years since discovering the Netti pot. I will never be without one.

Just because something is "natural" doesn't mean that it is good for you. Medications have been tested and doses have been standardized. When you take a natural product, it often hasn't been tested because it is called a supplement. Hemlock is natural and I certainly wouldn't take that!

I tried the Nedi Pot, it burns, I took Zertec for years, it worked but it caused heart palputations. The product that works for me is OPC-3. It's a natural product. It is great for allergies and asthmna. My son has stopped using his inhaler. The website is www.marketamerica.com/sensibleshopping or call toll free 800-716-7824

I have been diagnosed with chronic sinusitus and had endoscopic sinus surgery. You are out during the surgery for a short period of time, recovery time is quick and there is no pain. I highly recommend it!!!It corrected my deviated septum, polps, etc.

I use a hydro pulse nasal irrigation system. It's similiar to using a neti pot, but much easier. I wouldn't know what to do without it!!

ihave been using the nettie pot for years now....even before it received all the hype...it works really well at keeping sinus infections down to a minimal

my sons ear, nose, and throat dr. gave us "the recipe". take one quart of water. add 2 or 3 heaping tsp of canning salt,(do not used iodized salt). i rounded tsp baking soda. stir until well mixed. irrigate your nose often with this and it will definitely help your allergys and sinus problems. when i feel the allergy coming on i start
irrigating my nose often. also singulair has helped me more then the other kind

What I would really like is a tiny vacumn cleaner that I could put up my nose and into my sinuses and suck out the snot. I have days where I take allergy pills, use sinus spray, and hold my head over a humidifier and just can't get my sinuses to clear out.

4. How come nobody ever talks about allergy immunotherapy (shots) This is the only treatment to cure the underlying casue of allergies. ALl these oTC drug just mask the symptoms. They dont offer a "cure"
I had allergy shots for 25 years, and they did a world of good. It seems that I spent the first 3 years of grade school with packed sinuses. The only difference was that during the spring and late summer, my sinuses were so packed that they hurt.
Now, I have only about 2 weeks, 1 in the spring and 1 in August, where I have any severe problems, and mowing the yard doesn't bother me that way it did in high school.
