I recently pulled rankings for top searched health concerns and wow, was I surprised to see what people searched for!Health concerns are certainly no laughing matter. However, I thought it'd be interesting to show the top searched health topics that people generally don't talk about. Check it out for yourself and you'll see what I mean.
If you happen to have any of the health concerns listed below, you probably talk to your close friends and your doctor (I really hope you do talk to your doctor!) about them. However, it's extremely rare that they make it in your casual conversations. Can you imagine strolling into the office one morning and when your cube neighbor asks a polite "How are you?" you respond with, "Fine, thanks. Except for the [fill in your health concern here] that I just got diagnosed with!" Can we say awkward?
Anyway, if you're diagnosed with any of the health concerns below, or if you're just curious to see what they're all about, the Internet is a great thing. Hello, privacy! Go to AOL Body or search for these topics on AOL Search, such as depression symptoms, STD testing and hair restoration.
AOL's top searched health concerns that you don't talk about from this week:
1. Depression
2. HPV
3. Yeast infection
4. Genital warts
5. Genital herpes
6. Urinary tract infection
7. AIDS
8. Constipation
9. Erectile dysfunction
10. Hair loss

Im a Respiratory Therapist, working in a teaching hospital in West LA. Its so important to be able to talk to your Dr, communicate as you would with a close friend. I tell the new residents, that you can learn alot more about a patients illness if you listen and learn to communicate.

If you have blood in your stool, RUN ... don't walk ... to your doctor immediately. This is nothing to fool around with. Blood in the stool is a symptom of COLON CANCER. Doctors check for it routinely and you are very foolish to let embarassment get in the the way of SAVING YOUR LIFE. At 17 year old, my daughter had rectal bleeding and it turned out to be a pre-cancerous lesion. CALL YOUR DOCTOR IN THE MORNING !!!!!!

It is the last thing that doctors seem to look for but something as simple as an allergy to gluten can cause a number of symptoms including depression and all you have to do is change your diet slightly. There is a substitute for everything with wheat in it and support groups all over the country that can help. Getting gluten from wheat, barley, rye and contaminated oats out of your diet will amaze you by how well you feel. You can ask you doctor to be tested for the allergy or you can give up gluten on your own and see what kind of results you get. For more information type in gluten on your search engine and read some of the volumes of information that is available.

Why? Why be surprised to learn that people used the internet to get more information on EXTREMELY common conditions that are unnecessarily stigmatized?
Huh? Why WOULD these concerns come up in "casual conversation"?! No. The issue is that they do NOT come up in conversations with friends and physicians.
Talk to your doctor, people. You'll be amazed at how NOT a deal it is to him or her and at how helpful he or she can be!
The good things about this poorly-written article are that it does help to de-stigmatize these extremely common conditions and encourage people to talk about them with someone who can help.

I say screw it! Depression is now so prevalent it's known as the common cold of psychological ailments.
When I meet someone who's willing to admit he/she takes medication for depression, I perk up because, more often than not, they have insights into life that are far more interesting and filled with truth than the average jolly roger joe or giggly dumb blond you meet in public.

Some things are difficult to talk to a doctor about, but keep in mind they have the same problem themselves!

To the lady whose date got scared off because she was on meds for depression. I saw a shrink for 6 years and was on meds and had no problem telling anyone about it. I never had a guy run away because of it. In fact I met the best man I have ever know during that time and shortly after got off the meds,he and I are still together. Maybe you need to find better guys. If a guy can't handle that then he isn't strong enough for the things life and a relationship may throw at him and you don't need such a guy. Count yourself blessed he left. Never be afraid to tell anyone u see a srink, most people I told found it brave of me to admit it and they got along w/me even better knowing that about me, I guess because they then knew that I could understand if They had problems.

I'm aware of the problems being discussed, but I have a problem I'm scared to death of. I've been diagnozed with tumors on my adernal gland, pituitary gland, and maybe in my parathyriod and parotid glands. If anyone can give me info on this problem I would appreciate it. One Dr. is talking about waiting until the adrenal tumor gets bigger, but I think I'll be dead by then. Nora

WHAT DO PEOPLE DO WHEN THEY HAVE (AS I DO)
CHRONS DISEASE,OR IBD, CFS WHICH IS CHANGING THE NAME SO PEOPLE WILL TAKE IT MORE SERIOUSLY. OBVOUSLY I HAVE SEVERE STOMACH PROBLEMS.AMAZINGLY SOME OF THE DIGESTIVE DISEASES CAUSE CRIPPLING ARTHRITIC PROBLEMS. YES I HAVE THAT TOO. I'M NOT A HYPOCHONDRIAC. IF PEOPLE ACTUALLY THOUGHT I WANTED TO LIVE LIKE THIS - THEY NEED PSYCHIATRIC HELP.
DRS. DON'T SAY I'M DISABLED. THERE ARE SEVERAL DRS.
THEY DON'T TALK TO EACH OTHER. ALTHOUGH THEY WERE KIND ENOUGH TO GIVE ME A HANDICAP STICKER.
BASICALLY - IT HAS BECOME 'AGAINST THE LAW' TO BE ILL. EVEN IN MARRIAGES IN SICKNESS ... FORGET ABOUT IT. I AM A NURSE. I WORK IN A DRS. OFFICE. I WAS IN THE BATHROOM AND COULDN'T LEAVE FOR ALMOST AN HOUR.
I WAS VERY ILL.
THEY DOCTOR AND STAFF WERE MAD AT ME!!!
MOST PEOPLE AND EMPOYERS DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT SOME DISEASES OR ILLNESSES ARE ONLY BEING TREATED. MEDICATIONS HAVE SIDE - EFFECTS. PAIN KILLERS- THEY WANT US THERE, BUT IN WHAT CONDITION.
THE ANGST PEOPLE GO THROUGH, TRYING TO KEEP A JOB WHILE ILL IS HORRENDOUS. AMAZINGLY DRS. ALSO GET ANNOYED WHEN A PERSON CANCELS AN APT. BECAUSE THEY CANNOT GET IN TO THE OFFICE - BECAUSE THEY ARE ILL.
I'VE ACTUALLY HAD DRS. SAY - YOU SHOULDN'T BE OUT OF THE HOUSE. BUT THEY WILL NOT HELP YOU GET S.S. AND I'M TALKING LEGIT S.S. I PAY $1,000. A MONTH FOR HEALTH INS. NO ONE ELSE WILL COVER ME. EVEN MY BROTHERS SAY 'WHY DON'T YOU WORK PART-TIME?" REALLY,
AND WHAT PART OF THE TIME WILL I KNOW I WILL BE ON TIME AND DEPENDABLE. MY SELF ESTEEM IS GONE. MY 80 YEARS OLD PARENTS, WHO ARE IN BETTER HEALTH HAVE TO PAY MOST OF MY WAY.
TRY EXPLAINING A RECTOCELE TO 'ANYONE'!!! IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS: LOOK THIS ONE UP. NO ONE WANTS TO TALK ABOUT THAT. YET IT EFFECTS EVERY PART OF YOUR LIFE. DRS. CRINGE AT THAT ONE. I HAVE IT. I RUN OUT OF EXCUSES TO ORDINARY PEOPLE AND FRIENDS. WHY I CANNOT JOIN THEM.
AGAIN IT IS LIKE IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO BE SICK. I'VE NEVER IN MY LIFE THOUGHT I WAS PREDJUDICED, BUT THESE PEOPLE COMING INTO OUR COUNTRY AND GETTING FREE MEDICAL ETC. THERE CHILDREN WILL BE ABLE TO VOTE IN THE NEXT ELECTION, BECAUSE THEY WERE BORN HERE. SCARY. ONE DAY IN THE HOSPITAL FOR A FULL MASTECTOMY. WHAT IS WRONG HERE??? I'M READY TO KNOCK MYSELF OFF. I'M SOOOO TIRED OF DEFENDING MYSELF WITHOUT BEING EMBARASSED OR GROSSING OUT OTHERS TRYING TO EXPLAIN MY HEALTH PROBLEMS.
THE LAST EMPLOYER I HAD TOLD ME RIGHT TO MY FACE
"IF I WAS LOOKING FOR SYMPATHY IS WAS BETWEEN 'SHIT AND SYPHILOUS IN THE DICTIONARY." NICE.

With most all medically inportant issues, we wait until the "Aha Ha" momemt when the ailment reaches a level the we decide we need to see a Health Care Professional and, by that time, it is probably too late to treat the ailment.
By the time that a person with Coronary Artery Occlusion exhibits angina (chest pain - Acute Cornary Syndrome), 90+% of his/her coronary artery is already occluded and he/she is in dire need of angioplasty and/or coronary artery bypass graft surgery.
It is a shame but the truth that we usually wait too long for medical intervention.

Catwalk, I was read your post on your Crohn's Disease. I suggest reading "The Maker's Diet" by Jordan Rubin. It is about natural treatment of Crohns and other gastrointestinal conditions. The author was failing to respond to the conventional treatments and medications, he tells what dietary changes and supplements that saved his life. I hope this will help you. God bless.

JUST READING THESE - I HAVE TO SAY HOW MUCH I FEEL FOR ALL OF YOU. TUMORS EVEN SEX DRIVE. HOW SAD TO HAVE TO LIVE LIKE WE ARE LEPORS. DO YOU KNOW THAT NAME HAS BEEN CHANGED TO LESS STIGMATIZE IT. WE HAVE A REALLY SERIOUS PROBLEM IN THE U.S.
WE MOSTLY COME HERE 'INTERNET ' TO LEARN OF SUPPORT GROUPS OR ANYONE WHO HAS SOMETHING EVEN RELEVANT TO GET US THROUGH.
AS TO THE SEX QUESTION. ISN'T INTERESTING HOW MANY PEOPLE LOVE TO TALK ABOUT THE SEX THEY ARE GETTING???
ARE THEY REALLY. IN A WOMENS CASE IT COULD BE 'STRESS,HORMONAL, REMEMBER TOO THAT IT MAY BE THE PERSON YOU ARE WITH. IT COULD BE THE INCREDIBLE EFFORT TO BE PERFECT 'THE MAGAZINES THAT LOWER OUR SELF ESTEEM' CHECK OUT THE ARTICLE ON THIS SAME HOME PAGE ABOUT AIRBRUSHING. HAIR EXTENSIONS.
WHEN I WAS WORKING AND TOOK CARE OF THE KIDS. JUST TO BE 'READY' IF THE TIME CAME KNOCKING FROM THE HUSB. WHERE MY LEGS AND ARMPITS SHAVED? DID I NEED REFRESHING... WHY IS THIS MY DUTY AND MAN GUYS DON'T CARE ABOUT WHERE THEY'VE BEEN ALL DAY. PRESSURE.

IT'S AMAZINGLY HARD TO NAVIGATE. YES IT SOUNDS LIKE I AM MAKING EXCUSES FOR EVERYTHING. IT'S JUST SO OVERWHELMING. MY OWN BROTHER WAS GOING TO SUE ME FOR TAKING ADVANTAGE OF MY ELDERLY PARENTS. WHO GOD BLESS THEM DON'T MIND. THEY WORRY. FISTULAS ABCESSES. AGAIN THESE THINGS ARE UNAVOIDABLE AND WE CAN'T DISCUSS THEM. BUT AGAIN THANK YOU.

Nora,
Do you have "Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia"? Or have you been tested for it?

Dr. Kenneth Hildebrandt: it's foolish to click on a linked URL in a bulletin board because it may take you to a fake site that infects your computer with a wicked virus. You know...the kind you're afraid to talk to your doctor about? Seriously, I understand not talking to your doctor about stuff that will remain on your medical record, and could affect your ability to get life insurance later. It's a slippery slope.

I had an adrenal tumor. It was removed in 1997 and was benign. It is a horrible surgery. I have a scar going across my stomach that is unbelievable. I still don't have feeling in the skin on my stomach.
Make sure the doctor performs tests to see if your adrenal gland is functioning ok.
Do you have a history of taking steroids? The doctor told me mine was caused by taking steroids for large tonsils that were constantly infected.
Steroids can overstimulate your glands. I was taking Medral dose packs.
Mine grew to a huge size and was causing pain in the upper part of my abdomen.
I was told that had mine burst, I could of bled to death. Adrenal tumors are usually benign according to what my surgeon told me.
Hope this helps.

To Nora. If you're worried about your doctor's proposed course of treatment,or kack of it, het a second opinion. Also, find out as much about ypour condition as you can, such as specific names for it if there are any. Research on reutable web sites to help you better understand what you have. Althouygh hearing you have tumors may be be alarming, not all tumoras are malignant. Just find out all you can about yopur condition. Question your doctor about why he/she has made this decision. Good luck.
