My favorite memories as a little girl are of my family getting a beach house in Sandbridge Beach in Virginia. I knew that no matter what, every year my extended family would be together for one week out of the summer and I always looked forward to it. After hours of sun and sand , we would settle in for dinner and intense rounds of Mario Kart where I insisted on being Princess Peach (woohoo!)
Things changed as I grew up and it became harder to get the family together. I have been looking at taking a beach trip with some of my friends so I thought it would be a good idea to see what vacation rentals people were looking at on AOL Search. The Outer Banks (another personal favorite of mine) tops the list. It is followed by Florida and Myrtle Beach vacation homes.
Do you have any suggestions about the best vacation rental spots? If not, try searching for vacation rentals on AOL Search or check out travel deals on AOL Travel.

Holden Beach, NC, is a wonderful, family oriented beach with homes on the ocean, oceanview, and inlet side. You are never far from the lovely beach with some great shelling, and you can see both the sunrise (if you are up early enough!) and the beautiful sunset! There is a grocery store on the island for staples enough to make meals, and a few restaurants off the island. Any time of the year it is beautiful there.

There is an oceanfront condo for rent in Juan Dolio, Dominican Republic. That is the Caribean, between Puerto Rico and Cuba. It has two full baths. Great for a retiree. No need to drive, everything is right around there. You can travel the island by taking tours in the nearby hotels. It is a bargain....

I think that Rockport and Port Aransas is great I go there all the time when I visit my home State I love Padre Island also and the prices are great. And lets leave Rosie out of this one even though I don't really like her she has nothing to do with this.

We rented a house called "The Little Ark" on North Captiva Island, on the west coast of Florida. It was fabulous because the island is bridgeless. No cars and very few people. The beaches were deserted! It was a wonderful and peaceful getaway.

You will need a light jacket and jeans to spend a summers week or any length of time during June thru September on Oregon's coast. The other months you will freeze. Hard to match for the beauty and landscape. Only exception is Hawaii where you can usually plunge into the water at any given time and enjoy it. I lived north of Kailua on the water and I doubt if anywhere else on earth has the same weather and water conditions. I now live in Florida and am missing the cleaner waters of the Pacific. We have a month of red tide here (bacteria) and another month of mysterious fish kills and generally a slowly dying Gulf of Mexico. My personal choice is anywhere from Smith River, CA to the Washinton state line in the dead of summer. In the winter, its Hawaii or Stuart, Florida area.

I recommend rentals in Waldport or Yachats Oregon. You have miles and miles of beautiful sandy beaches. Famous light house tours. Dune buggies in nearby Sandunes of Florence. Seat Lion Caves. Oregon Coast Aquariam. Numerous hiking trails with fantastic views. Horseback riding on the beach. Fishing and crabbing with boat rentals. Shopping in quaint shops including shops on the old Newport waterfront.

Jumby Bay, a private island a boats ride from Antiqua is the most serene island. No cars, no telephones, you have a hut to a couple on the beach, you can walk the whole island, or bike it, there are goats that roam wild. The only noise you hear is the waves or Robin Leach. He owns a home there. It is very comparable price wise when you add up all the groceries and amenities that you purchase after you travel to North Carolina. I am not knocking Nags Head or anywhere on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, but dollar for dollar you get heaven at Jumby Bay. Any day, any hour you can have anything you want anywhere. There is someone always there to serve/wait on you and they are very friendly also. Jumby Bay, all inclusive.

Flathead Lake, MONTANA - Gorgeous!! State has multiple National Parks (Glacier and Yellowstone) as well as The Rockies and views, water, wildlife everywhere. It is like stepping into a postcard. I have rented vacation homes there for 10 years and every person who has rented one has returned to purchase property. NO sales tax, photography, fishing, hiking, native american culture, boating ( we are the sailing capital of the west upon Flathead Lake the largest body of Fresh Water West of the Mississippi in the continental United States, skiiing, horses, friendly people, year round sunshine, green pine trees and blue sky. I have traveled everywhere and I haven't found anything better in any category yet. Come on over :) We're the 4th biggest state in the USA with less than 1 million total folks here. We have plenty of room...

Looking for a rental on Oahu, Hawaii? Be sure you confirm whether or not it is LEGAL. If it's in a residentially zoned area and it's rented for less than 30 days, the B&B or home must have a non-conforming use certificate (NUC)to be legit. Lots of properties advertised on the internet do not carry an NUC and may also not have liability insurance. You also risk a visit from a city inspector. It happened to someone I know. Go to sonhawaii.org or bnbcoalition.org for more info. Don't say you weren't warned.
