Searches are up on AOL Search lately for diet pills. Being as it is summer, that is no surprise, but there is also a new pill on the market making a ton of buzz. The Alli diet pill was released recently and they have been selling out all over the nation. The pill is an over-the-counter version of pill, Xenical, which is an FDA-approved prescription drug.
The premise of the pill is that it is a "fat blocker." I don't know what a fat blocker is, but it kind of sounds like a made-up buzz word to me. This "fat blocker" prevents fat from being absorbed into the gastrointestinal tract. The pill also comes along with instructions for a change in diet and exercise when you purchase it.
Now, I don't know if it is just me, but it seems that a change in diet and exercise alone would make you slim down ... so why do you even need the pill? Also, are people really going to take advice on their diet from GlaxoSmithKline? My last question is if this fat blocker is really blocking absorption, then where is the fat going?
Have you tried the Alli pill? Let me know what you think about it.

I've tried it since Friday, and I'm not having any problems. Read and follow the instructions. If you're going to have a meal with more than the recommended amount of fat - don't take it prior to that meal.

#69.. you take the pill if you DO eat fatty foods.. this pill only causes any FAT you eat to leave your body instead of being absorbed.. not if you want to stay away from fat... this pill is only if you eat greasy foods and dont want to pack away all of that fat youre eating. there is no need to take the pill if you avoid fattening foods.. READ THE PAMPLET

I was on this pill when it was prescription only. I had very few side effects becasue I did not eat large quanities of fatty foods. I don't remember why I went off of it though, I don't think it made that much of a difference.

As a Certified Master Personal Trainer and retired amature bodybuilder I am always skeptical of fad pills and diets...there is no pill for permanant, consistant, and properly balanced eating habits (did you notice I did NOT say diet...because diets are temporary.) and a regular regimine of moderate exercise.
Fat Blockers...Cortisol Blockers... Carb Blockers....PLEASE show me the UNBIASED scientific proof that they work. Not only have, I not seen the facts. Over 15yrs of bodybuilding I have experimented with almost everything known in the weight/fat loss category of OTC products to prepare for bodybuilding shows...and MOST OF THE OTC products I have tried do not work. I do not even recommend them to my clients EVER bexcause it is a wate of $$$. The sole exception being ephedra and i do not recommend that to clients either. By the way have you ever noticed that when you read the instructions for these products it almost always reads something like...."this product is more effective if you eat (whatever) and exercise for (whatever).

I haven't tried Alli but have been thinking about it. I was afraid of the bathroom problem. I need to loose 20lbs. but didn't know if it was worth it.

I feel great! I've been on Alli for 20 days and I have lost 12 pounds!!!!!!! I cut down my fat intake to 15 or less grams with every meal. I have never had an accident and go to the bathroom only once a day. There is oily fat when I do go but nothing to be scared about. That means the pill is doing it's job. I love and recommend it to anyone that needs to lose more than 40 pounds. GOOD LUCK

I TOOK XENICAL FOR A WHILE BUT WAS NOT TOLD TO TAKE VITAMINS WHILE TAKING IT. I TOOK LESS THAN THE RECOMMENDED DOSE AND I DID LOSE WEIGHT. I ONLY TOOK IT WHEN I KNEW I WOULD BE AT HOME BECAUSE OF THE "ACCIDENTS". I ENDED UP IN THE HOSPITAL WITH SEVERE ANEMIA (IRON SHOULD BE AROUND 12, MINE WAS 4). I WAS ALSO UNDER A LOT OF STRESS AT THE TIME AND ENDED UP HEMMORAGING. THAT WAS OVER 4 YEARS AGO, I WAS DYING, AND I STILL HAVE THE BAD HEALTH EFFECTS FROM IT. IF YOU TRY ALLI BE VERY CAREFUL EVEN IF IT ISN'T AS STRONG AS XENICAL.

I have been taking the "Hoodia" pill and have lost 3 1/2 inches off my waist in 8 days. I tricks your brain into thinking your full. I take one in the morning after I work out with a glass of milk and one about an hour before I get off work.

"My last question is if this fat blocker is really blocking absorption, then where is the fat going?"
Did the person who wrote this article not "absorb" the part about the greasy, sometimes uncontrollable flatulence? The fat you are eating (that is why they say if you are going to eat a meal with fat in it, to take the pill) is being blocked, and sent right on through you.

I'M IN AGREEMENT WITH 4, 14, 19, & 20. ALL THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS ARE FROM THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE NOT TRIED ALLI. I'VE TRIED EVERYTHING INCLUDING THE PERSCRIPTION FROM MY DOCTOR THAT COST $110 W. NO RESULTS, TILL NOW! I BOUGHT & STARTED IT FRIDAY & HAVE ALREADY LOST 6 LBS. I HAVEN'T HAD A BAD EFFECT, BUT REMEMBER, YOU ONLY TAKE THE PILL IF YOUR MEAL CONSISTS OF MORE THAN 15 G. OF FAT. FOR ME, THAT MEANS ONLY ONE PILL A DAY. SO FAR, I LOVE IT!

If you want it to work it will work! 3 days and I have control, I have figured out how it will effect me and I have set my own limits to prevent the wondermous side effects. I imagine that "STOP EATING!!! and head to a gym once in a while....sheesh" has never had a baby, or thyroid disorder, diabetes, or menopause and probably has never been an ounce overweight.

My complaint is that Xenical costs less than Alli. This is true regardless of whether you get your insurance company to pay for most of the Xenical expense as a prescription or if you pay full price for Xenical. Insurance won't cover Alli, the Alli dosages are about 1/2 the strength of Xenical, and their price is nearly double. Consumers get ripped off again.

I as a medical professional feel it is immoral and a crime to add to this world of prescription and non prescription chemicals.
why do humans think a pill is the answer to all.
for dieting get brave and use willpower and eat balanced low calorie meals. Pill companies are only in it to make money.

That's gastrointestinal "tract", not "track". The illiterate appear to be triumphing.

I tried this pill when it came out, to my horrible surprise I saw a gallon of something that looked like olive oil floating in my toilet, was not a pretty sight!!! Now I am hanging out with wet stains in my pants, very embarrasing!!! Guess I will have to go back to diet and exersise, hate it!

I think I should try Xenical instead of Alli to see
what does happens.
