Searches are up on AOL Search lately for diet pills. Being as it is summer, that is no surprise, but there is also a new pill on the market making a ton of buzz. The Alli diet pill was released recently and they have been selling out all over the nation. The pill is an over-the-counter version of pill, Xenical, which is an FDA-approved prescription drug.
The premise of the pill is that it is a "fat blocker." I don't know what a fat blocker is, but it kind of sounds like a made-up buzz word to me. This "fat blocker" prevents fat from being absorbed into the gastrointestinal tract. The pill also comes along with instructions for a change in diet and exercise when you purchase it.
Now, I don't know if it is just me, but it seems that a change in diet and exercise alone would make you slim down ... so why do you even need the pill? Also, are people really going to take advice on their diet from GlaxoSmithKline? My last question is if this fat blocker is really blocking absorption, then where is the fat going?
Have you tried the Alli pill? Let me know what you think about it.

I've been using it since Fri., and am only experiencing minor side effects. I really do THINK about what I eat.
I have been on a low fat diet, and exercise for a few months, and just couldn't seem to drop the weight.
Now I can finaly see some results for my effort.

I have been using and following the guidelines for Alli for 4 days now. No complains so far but must say over a 4 day period I loss 2lbs with no bathroom side effects or any other side effects.

I started taking Alli 4 days ago and it seems to be working fine. I do have the oily side effects but not uncontrolable. I started to eat less fat like the directions say and so far I am pretty happy. I love that it doesn't make you jittery and you can sleep fine at night.

I asked my doctor today about Alli and he did not recomend it. He highly recommended Weight Watchers instead, which I have done and had success but at the moment I am focusing on the "Super Foods". If you haven't read the books, they are great! If you really want to poop a lot, eat pumpkin. It's loaded with fiber and good for you too!

I have a question....If this pill blocks fat...Why in the word would you want to block all the healthy fats too?...In case you didn't know all healthy fats help you lose weight when eatten in moderaton...the healthy fats connects to the bad fats and help metoblize out of your system...so think twice before using this product...think about the long-term effects...and just changing your diet and add excerise will do...if you need extra help use that money to see a nutrionist/trainer instead...

I think the bottom line is that not matter what diet method you use, it will work better for some than others. This pill sounds like it is just the "boost" that many need to get going and works as sort of training in a sense to keep you away from fats with the reward of losing more than going alone. I have only been on the pill for 3 days but I have not had any effects that would not come naturally to switching to a bit more fruit and veggie and fiber in the diet. This pill does not effect metabolism so I feel that after you have lost he wieght that you want, the healthy habits learned while on the pill with help to maintain the wieght loss. I am commited and confident and looking toward success!!

I know this flies in the face of what this pill is all about but in my experience you need modest to high levels of good fats (olive oil, flaxseed oil, coconut oil) to lose weight. I can see someone losing weight on a very short term basis with this because of calorie reduction but the body will stabilize and you will end up with loose skin, a "puckered" face and a weight problem again.

I have used it and some of my friends as well. It makes you go (#2) more often and your "waste" becomes oily. You will loose weight after a month.

you never seen big fat people in africa, because THEY DONT EAT!, so the solution is not a pill...the actual pill probably has calories, just stop putting stuff in your mouth and take a walk. STOP BELIEVING THAT WE NEED 3 MEALS A DAY.

You are comparing Africa to diet? LOL...Africa don't eat...those kids who don't eat are lucky if they live to become an adult. See those stomach protruding out? thats a sign of starvation...They need to eat 3 times a day...and anyways to lose weight, you should excercise and eat 6 SMALL MEALS a DAY! You can eat what you want, just in the correct portions!

I started taking Alli, and as long as you follow instructions, you wont get diarrhea....you do get soft stool though, but its all worth the sacrifice. Only take it if you are willing to make changes. If you want to eat like a pig a lose weight, then let me tell you it won't work!
By Jen on Jun 18th 2007 at 4:02PM
Evette here! so far i have i not loss any weight but like another person said your stool is very oily. Hopefully it will work

And what about genetics? I have a number of genetic problems, and it has become a huge issue for me to lose weight. Every single diet I've tried, from Shangri-La to Weight Watchers to limited-calorie diet to you-name-it has failed. Utterly. I have the resolve to do it, but my weight only goes down 10-20 lbs. before climbing back up. It's like my body's natural weight point is 290 (I'm 6'6", by the way) and no matter what I do, from eating healthy to eating unhealthily, it stays there. I can eat 3 meals of McDonald's (not that I'd want to) and not gain any weight, but the opposite is also true.
If there were ever a chance for me to be experimented on for gene therapy, I'd jump at the chance.
This pill looks like it wouldn't help me. Just like every other pill I've ever tried. Just like any other diet/exercise I've ever tried.

In Jan with my weight at it's highest point I knew I had to do something. I do not like to diet so I did what French woman are said to do eat smaller portions.
Well it works. I am 5'7" and went from size 12 to size 8 losing 38 pounds never going hungry and never giving up any food group! at Mc Donalds I had a Happy Meal in a reastraunt I ate half and boxed the other half for another meal. We Americans just have to learn to enjoy our food and eat slower and eat less!!! BUT NEVER GIVE UP WHAT YOU LOVE! Believe me it works and now if I try to eat more my belly tells me NO WAY. Remember our stomachs are only the size of a fist we just stretch it beyond its normal size but it will go back if we let it. Simple and no giving up the foods you love just knowing when to push the plate away!

I think that one reason it may work is that you will eat less fat for fear of being punished with poopy-pants.

i used the xenical years ago. it helped...but let's just say.."a fart is no longer a casual thing!"
